What causes SS1 in ST2 to crash when selecting sounds

This is a problem that I have been having Sampletank 2 since its release and now that I have Sonic Synth it is happening with this product. I assume it is software problem and if so why hasn't it been resolved now as it spoils the pleasure of randomly testing presets as it crashes and makes me think twice about using in a project as it crashes.
This is not a rant against the product as a whole but this one annoying problem that is getting to be a bit of a joke as far as i am concerned.

Some sounds can cause problems but it is rare. Give me a list of any that do from SR and we'll fix it. I was supposedly getting a list from someone else who mentioned this on the forum but I never got it.
If it is NOT a rare occurance and it crashes a lot then you need to update to the latest version of the software most likely. Also, talk to IK tech support because you never know if there is something to do with your system and troubleshoot with them to find out what the deal is exactly.

I've been using the original Sonic Synth 1 instruments with the SampleTank2 engine since about February (or whenever ST2 was released!).
There are some instruments that don't make any sound (probably a broken patch in there somewhere), and a few that sound different. All and all though, It's not a big enough problem to bother me - there is usually a similar instrument that works.
As for the crashing, I can definitely see how that can be a problem.
Like Squids, I suggest:
1) Make sure you're running the latest version of ST2, your host, and possibly your operating system.
2) Send a report to IK Multimedia (include your system specs and other software you're running) - they might already know about the problem and have a workaround or a fix (or at least they can start working on a fix).
3) Make a note of which sounds don't work, and send a list of broken sounds to Sonic Reality. They'll fix you up.
4) In the mean-time, you can move the files for the broken instruments into a different folder/directory, so you don't accidentally come across them in the future.
Forever,
Kim.

Athlon XP2200+
1gig generic RAM
Windows XP (stock, no service packs or tweaks)
Cubase SX2.2
2) Cubase comes up with the infamous "A serious problem has occurred..." dialogue box.
3) I hit ok. Dialogue box goes away. Everything looks normal, except that ST2 is making no sound.
4) I select another sound, and ST2 works fine.
I guess that counts as a crash... but Cubase manages to save things from falling apart, and I can keep on working. Who would have guessed?
Crash, but recoverable.
Makes a weird short clicking sound.
Makes no sound.
"Sweep LPF Pad 2" works fine.
"HPF Sweep Pad" works fine.
With regards to the "crashes". I'd like to point out that all the tests above were done in one session - not once did I have to restart ST2 or Cubase.

Regarding the crashes on my machine sampletank 2 crashes Sonar 3, Project 5, Chainer and Fruity Loops.
I tried with Energy XT and that seems to produce the same results as Cubase in that it reports an error but does not actually crash.
The inconvenince for me is that I have a Scope soundcard and if the soiftware crashes I have to reset the whole soundcard.
Anyway, I suppose I can use EnergyXT as workaround for now.

There's a batch of faulty ST sounds, some have crashed Cubase 5.1/FLS from day one. They've been reported by myself and others and so far, not a word in reply from IK tech support
tbh, I've given up on them ever being fixed................
A few of them are
Bass Guitars
(Play a sustained note to hear what I mean)
1/ Old four strings. .
DubBass - C1 > F1
Growl bass - C1 > F1
Very high tuning - C1 > F1
2/ Fingered JBass F+R
Groove this - C1 > F1
3/ Muted JBass
Afro Bass - C1 > F1
Acoustic Guitars
Acoustic 12 string
(All the following crash Cubase 5.1 and FL Studio when any note from F1 down is played)
12 String Harpsi
Fritz Guitar Made up 11 string
Retromonix
MW Smidgitar
Steel stretch pad
Electric gutars
(Same as the Bass patches listed above, play a sustained note to hear what I mean)
Lead Strat
Rock Fusion solo - C1 > G1
Stereo Cabs lead - C1 >G1
Stereo Chords Wall - C1 > G1
Some of the patches that produce no sound were fixed with the sounds update released a while back. Mabye you've found some more? (wouldn't surprise me)

Any news on whether these sounds are going to be looked at squids - I know that in the scheme of things there are only about 20 presets with problems. However, being a big fan of funkadelic I would like to try out the funkadelic bass.

No, but this is important too. Of course, a lot was mentioned in this thread that is different. As far as Sonic Synth 1 sounds, there are these few out of the large lot of them that have issues because of internal connections made for ST1 that are different in ST2. I have an idea of what to do to fix it only I think the only way to provide those fixes is to make a download replacement of those sounds. For the most part Sonic Synth 1 sounds way better in ST2 and of course has so much more capability. But, the silent sounds or crashing sounds can and needs to be fixed IMO even if the product is discontinued.
As for ST2 XL sounds, you guys are welcome to email me (better to email than to flog on the forum... at least for me and politics of what I try to do to help) any lists of issues you've found. For one of the next major updates on ST2 XL I will be working on a sound update. I can't tell you more information than that but I can tell you that I will look at any requests or comments you have about the XL sound set as long as it is done through email and not on the forum.
So, when I get a chance (maybe toward the end of next week) I will take a look at those sounds in our proprietary editing tools and see what the culprit is.

I didn't realize this problem was reproducable and limited to certain sounds. And I only thought it was happening when switching sounds during playback. That's interesting to know that other people have this same problem. I continue to have this issue, and it's scary--I'm always afraid of losing my work or corrupting my project.

Thanks Squids. I have just received my order and have similar problems. Many sounds were crashing SampleTank and the host (tried in SONAR, FL Studio and energyXT). Some of the sounds are silent and some have just a clicking sound. I'll try to report a complete list of the problematic sounds when I have time.

We've gotten a number of reports emailed and thank you for the info. I will cross-check it against our own tests this week. We're sorry as the ST1 sounds were not retested with ST2 because we have been working on different versions of those libraries in ST2 for the Expansion Tank series.
Some known issues with silent samples have been floating around. We dropped the ball a bit because this is on SR to fix (even though they work fine in ST1 but there is something in the programming that makes ST2 have a problem with it). At first we weren't sure if a software update would fix it but I think we'll have to do a sound update.
I am thinking that the combination of any fixes on any of the version 1 eROMS plus the Sonic Synth 1 sounds that worked in ST1 but are having trouble in ST2 because of complex modulation programming underneath can probably be updated and put onto one disc that everyone gets. We have to be able to reproduce the problem for it to make it onto that disc though so feel free to email me your specs and exact sounds that you are having problems with and I will make sure it makes it onto this disc. We may alternately do it via download but... I was thinking about making a bonus disc for you guys anyway. So, all of the fixes plus some extra sounds from the capsules might be a nice double solution for you all with an extra perk.
These are the kind of things we do because we care. We're going through every sound and we have Project 5 and FL here to check specific things... it all depends on how specific you are in your EMAIL. If you post it here it may get missed but I am collecting data from one place: dave@sonicreality.com
You'll end up benefiting better than the temporarily inability to use just some of the sounds out of the many hundreds across the libraries. Kind of like a waiter forgets your drink and gives you two drinks on the house and a free desert.
Thanks for your patience. We're on it.
I should mention, we are on it even though these products are discontinued and replaced by new ones that are designed specifically to work with ST2 engine. Bottom line is though that I want you guys to get everything you can out of these collections. We'll make it happen. Hang in there. Play the other thousand sounds for now and avoid any that are giving you trouble or that have been mentioned above.
By the way, you CAN make a list of any problem sounds here, I just meant that you should email me that and any details specs about which host, which versions etc. so that I can compile it from one source, cross-check with my guy's tests and have the most concrete solution as fast as possible.
