Agreed on this. Music Man owns the trademark on 4+2 tuners headstock, which is a shame because it's a technical innovation that all guitars could benefit from.Jim Roseberry wrote:The JP series maintains good tuning with the trem.
Part of the reason; Look at the break angle of the strings (lack there of) as they go thru the nut and into the tuners.
They're almost perfectly straight.

There is no push/pull and this is non-piezo (if it matters)
For the strings, the first set were ok (just EB's) but this one was intensely easy to tune. In fact, I've had tuning issues with pretty much every MM I've tried (including the Majesty in particular)
Just keep in mind, mine is not a logical world. If I had a photo, it would be the poster child for murphy's law

Played an Eric Johnson Signature Strat.
Heavenly. The guitar was modified for only one volume and one tone control. Smart imho. I never thought I'd like a "V" shape neck. Felt great.

The Eric Johnson is the one that always gets me interested. I have a real 57' that I love, but wouldn't' mind some slightly bigger frets and a bigger/flatter compound radius.
If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer

I like volume, tone (bridge pickup), blend (bridge and neck pickups). The blend on a start with hum canceling pickups is my #1 favorite mod.

I'd actually like a 5way where the middle position is all three pups A lot of EJ's tone stems from his pups. (yeah delay and all the other effects don't hurt either ) With regards to noise cancelling pups.... The only ones I really love are Lace Sensor original Gold (not hot) and SD stacks. Both change the character of the single coil sound. Like all noiseless / hum cancelling pups.
I hate the magnetic single coil pups in my Yamaha Variax standard. They sound crass.

I've never played an actual 50's Fender. I love my 80's Strat Plus but it's overdue for a shop visit.SJ_Digriz wrote:The Eric Johnson is the one that always gets me interested. I have a real 57' that I love, but wouldn't' mind some slightly bigger frets and a bigger/flatter compound radius.

The EJ is too bulky for me. They have one down the way, but there isn't anything special about it imho.
I mentioned the Cutlass already, right? You can set up the trem to be like a strat (slight float) and the neck/SS frets are nice, maybe a little too V though? Not sure I'm up on my strat type necks. Like the idea of the hum-canceling but not overly crazy about the colors. And then don't know if I'd want rosewood or maple and then it's two colors I'm currently even less crazy about.
Also want to try a MM stingray 5 string again, but AGAIN not happy about color combos. Getting one w/o the headstock painted, and the pickup config, and the up to date neck is perplexing. Pretty sure I don't want a neck through either (which seems to be all the rage right now)

...picked up a G&L Ascari:

The shorter (Gibson-style) scale is a nice change of pace as most of my guitars feel like they're the longer, Fender-style scale length.
G&L Fiorano looks like a contender for the 'next' guitar. Also an Ibanez RC320. oh, then there's the G&L Fallout.
P90s on G&Ls... very 'nice'.
As an aside, here's a sort of motherlode for budget guitars...
BTW, had an exercise in futility the other day, attempting to offload a bunch of off-brand guitars at Guitar Center. They (or at least the sales dude there at the time) wanted nothing to do with the Revilles, Monoprice, Davison, etc. It seems they're only interested in Gibson/Epiphone, and Fender/Squier, then maybe the odd Schecter, PRS, Ibanez, Musicman, etc....
So, it seems like the resale value of off-brand budget guitars is virtually nil. Of course, in 30 years some of these guitars might fetch a pretty penny. They're for the most part good players, but a person has to be open-minded to get into them for anything other than collecting. ymmv.

We make our Tone Bakery guitars using Warmoth parts. At the very least, if you want to sell it, you can sell it as a Warmoth guitar.Xiangqi wrote:So, it seems like the resale value of off-brand budget guitars is virtually nil.
