N.E.R.D's song "Fly Or Die" is a good and probably one of the better known examples. Some are predicting this is going to be the next big thing in pop music. There's already a lot of underground punk hop going..
I'm all for complex beats and eclecticism

Thanks for mentioning N.E.R.D. :) I looked them up on Rhapsody and am really enjoying their music

So this year punk hop is the new grey (or whatever)

next year it will be drum n classical or something :?
I swear I posted my drum & chamber piece before this -- wasn't trying to be trendy

We used to allways take the piss out of the dnb boys (mate producers), saying that the new genre of dnb was " Bum and Bass, JunGaylistic". Childish I know.....
"And if I live in wonderland...I'm better off this way..."

That was a pretty funky statement wasn't it?

So modern rock is doomed without the blacks huh? And whites need to stop yelling so much because they can't sing. I'll keep that in mind.

Oh and the genres don't end. Apperantly there is a new subgenre of Hip Hop, RnB called Crunk. Ever hear of it?

It's a style now? I just remember fools saying it as a word, now it's a genre? :?

I think you'll find that's 'Grime' also known as Sub-low.

In point of fact the basis of musical genre classification in the west is the International Library services who need categories to index and retrieve works in a structured form. The current convential classification is a kind of home-grown Internat tradition that has evolved off that. Music critics also play an important role in defining genre names, as do the names given to 'scenes' in which new genres become identified.

One thing I find interesting with both trends, Punk Hop and Crunk is that it is like a recognition that Hip Hop and RnB's laid back kinda vibe beat and soundwise was very limiting. So the Punk Hop acts have beats that are like 110-180bpm and loud guitars, and the Crunk people have a lot of really abrasive bass sounds and choruses which feature a whole crowd shouting.

It's almost like everyone suddenly realized that American urban music needed to get a lot more amped up and rowdy to keep from getting boring.

Speedbass, is that genre still around? And what was that about? Where was it based?

Cross-genre dressing.

Punk-Hop (if that is what the music media wants to call it) is my kind of rock & roll right now. This is the only reason why rock & roll is not dead yet. :)

It also proves that The Neptunes/N.E.R.D. are so underrated at artists in their own right. :)

If you want to save rock, put the funk & the hip-hop back in it. Let people of color show you how to save it. Please find a way for synths & guitar to co-exist without hate. And finally, can these (mostly white) vocalist try to sing without yelling so much??? :?

Rest in peace to Rick James, master of Punk-Funk.
All I'm saying is let us all make rock fun again. Let make rock into a better image. I wanna rock happy and not angry, depress, or sad all the damn time.

And yes, let people of color (OutKast, The Neptunes, Prince, etc.) help you more.

heh, most people like some 'non-radical music' Liam from the Prodigy likes Gloria Estefan. I like Enrico Iglesias and Christina Aguilera.
