Frankly, when i started out in early 2000's with this kind of thing, i was like "Wah??!?" when reading in mags which had the topic of computer, or hardware music production. Sometimes we forget that it's quite a technical topic, and i can't really see much bad about mags trying to explain it in a more simple way, like Computer Music does. It also guarantees that your target audience doesn't consist merely of audio production nerds, who make 10 % of the already small audience.

Often enough "best for me" is maybe not even literally that, but more... "Best for me among the things I bothered to try for more than a couple of days."

There's just way too many to really honestly try (and really learn how to use) them all, beyond a somewhat cursory demo. DP might have been ended up the best thing for me but I didn't spend enough time using it (learning how to best use it) to really know for sure.

It's like being at the 1000 flavor ice cream place. At some point you just pick one and get on with eating because you can't taste them all. :)

I don't use it, but it must be Reaper. Because Reaper is always the best

I have tried many DAWs (not Reaper yet) and have found all have their good points and all are extremely annoying to use because they never do exactly what you want them to do. If I could combine all the things I like in each and actually have it work? Yeah, best DAW ever! :D

Until then? None of them really. :?

I feel the real point of these are always to do with their marketing.
Implying 'best' where most hopefully see that as a subjective term with no real meaning, it does place the rift in our subconscious where the only way to be secure with 'what is...' is to own everything for true comparison. And sooner or later the question becomes a fact that we will at least buy a second one to assuage that insecurity.

For years, I keep circling around the same companies, and it almost denotes my age group and time when I entered into the software craze. Equally, the next generation seems to cycle around a different set, mostly relevant to their coming into it as well. Some of us will even give the newer stuff a try to see if it is 'better' somehow.

Because my 'first' real software that I made use of in '92 was the free lite studios bundled with interfaces, I find it necessary to at least keep some version of them on my system. Case in point: "PowerTracks". Not because I think it to be the best, but because I literally have 200-300 projects I did in the '90's with it and it just becomes easier to have the updated version of it when I'm opening those files to revisit the source of ideas I had back then. Second to that, was the period where 'Twelve Tone Systems' became the norm and right around the same time Cubase had fallen into my lap.

I still believe these polls should exclude anything which is not cross-platformed to at least the two major OSs though, lest we get thrown into comparing fruit to sand by doing so and immediately making it an irrational premise. But again, that's what the advertiser wants from us specifically, because it's easy to keep us spinning for their benefit then.

If I were to follow my own thought on it, then by my own deduction, I'm left with Cubase, but since I feel it has enough pros & cons to never be the best in any realm (as well as do all the others), it seems like a waste of time to vote, but still a humorous thing to watch. It begs the question, "what if everyone could see the obvious market strategy and choose to simply not play?"

Perhaps the good it's doing for me this time around is in helping me see how little I really use Cubase anymore and that it's time to completely let it go?

BTW, what I have on my system are there to what boils down to using it for one thing it does to meet a need (albeit not all my needs).
i.e. PowerTracks; Sonar; Cubase; Finale (To which the younger sales people I talk with say "wow, I didn't know anyone used those anymore!")

There is an image about different people use DAWs. It is really funny and somehow true! I'm searching for it but can't find it.
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Bitwig 5, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Perhaps a more realistic option would be to only get input only from people who've swapped from one DAW they used to use to a new one they find better (or to a new one that after much trial wasn't as good as the previous one, so they swapped back). That could allow better relative assessments. There might not be enough data, but if there were, the data could be assessed like some sort of sports league.

Or something.
[W10-64, T5/6/7/W8/9/10/11/12/13, 32(to W8)&64 all, Spike],[W7-32, T5/6/7/W8, Gina16] everything underused.

Seems to scew all polls to fruity loops /reaper as they are very cheap and accesable.
I recall reading somewhere reliable that the professional market is pretty evenly split between Mac and PC. On the Mac side Logic and Pro Tools are leaders. On the PC side, Pro Tools and Live, but this side of the market is obviously much more fragmented.

My own observations lead me to believe that Logic, Live, Reaper, and FL Studio are the fan favorites.

I'm not 100% on this, so don't beat me up. :D

Hmmm. BabyaLogic or DubTurbo. There can be only one.

This poll should be renamed to "What DAW do you like the most?", because that is what it's really about. What's best for you might not be the best for me, and vice versa.

Exactly!

They should name the poll "Musicradar's Readers Choice". That's it.

quite a lot of responses to this are variations of "there is no best DAW, its up to your personal choice" This is completely and 100% true, however there is a lot to be gained from the exercise of arguing about the best DAW, so I'm not sure that's the most helpful response. I mean FL Studio wins this thing just about every time, and I HATE FL studio, so obviously, I don't agree with the masses on this one. I have zero problems with people telling me why their DAW is the best, in fact I encourage it. It might not sway my opinion, and I may read your piece and think that it doesn't apply to my deal, or I may quietly think you're an idiot. However, I might see some merit there and find out something I've been missing. having an opinion is good. This doesn't apply to slagging off somebody else's DAW, or constantly pimping your DAW out in every thread whether it's welcome there or not (I'm Looking at YOU, reaper people!) but for God's sake if you like your DAW tell me why.

So that's the Point! You hate FL Studio and I like it. We don't agree and that is why the result from polls like this does not help much when it comes to buying a DAW. As a buyer you need to look at them yourself one by one and choose the one you find more suitable for you. Why do I like FL Studio? I bought it because it was value for Money. I love the piano roll and I use it all the time. Workflow suits me. So is FL Studio perfect? The answer is of course NO! There are certain things I don't like with it and I am sure that is true for any DAW. Even if you love your DAW and is the biggest fanboy on the planet, I am sure there are a thing or two that you don't like so much with your DAW.
