Hey gang....I understand the AU - Audio Units are for OSX and apple...as I own Garage Band , Soundtrack, Final Cut Pro, Reason, and Live....(not Live 4 yet shoot)

but I am confused as to the idea that all of these Plug-ins are being released in AU format....

My ProTools LE uses RTAS......

and as far as I can tell Garage Band doesn't allow the use of AU -instruments
and Final Cut Pro serves AU - AUDIO EFFECTS...but it doesn't support MIDI...

I do not own Cubase or Logic nor do I wish too buy these just to use these plug- ins that i have been given as gifts from my composers...

I want to use PHATMATIK PRO...and some of these VST plugs that i have converted over into AU format...to run on my apple....

what application USES AU? with MIDI? software instruments?

last i heard CUBASE and Logic were all VST....?

please help me understand this as i have the converters to VST -to RTAS...but i have been wanting to explore NATIVE Apple options instead of having to rely on my mBox-Digidesign ProTools based setup....

I would like to work with Reason and Live....I hear LIVE 4 uses AU and VST plugs ins and MIDI instruments...as well...but

what other options are there? that i am missing?

much thanks

Logic is mainly AU now. (1)
There's also SonaSphere, which everyone on a fastish Mac should check out, and of course Plogue Bidule.

Groet, Erik

(1) pretty much AU-only.
Pop music delenda est.
