What's also excellent is the subtle way sounding notes are silenced when playing pads like those Cinematic Strings. No matter how many chords I play, the CPU load does not exceed a certain level, either.

Well, AFAIK, there have been a couple of updates which optimized CPU usage. I only can remember when i demo'd it a couple of years ago, that it was quite heavy. With my computer back then, could maybe play a 4-note sound in divine, and it'd max out my CPU. Anyway, i guess it also depends on other factors, like used hardware, OS, maybe whether it's 32- or 64-bit and so on. Of course, there is not the one test which says it all, but, i've been visiting this forum since 2009 or so, and, whenever the talk was of CPU intensive plugins, they usually were CPU intensive on my CPU. So, at the very least, you can extract a general tendency out of it.zvenx wrote:Hi, its a 2014 macbook pro...
Four cores I think.

Anyway I am off the unscientific cpu vs test
For me Both Legend and Diva sound fantastic, with Legend indeed to my ears sounding more minimoog-like which is to be expected from their Design and goal.
I just believe that this Diva is a unusual cpu hog is a fallacy

Yes when it came out in 2012? it was indeed a cpu hog, but this was indeed before some additional key optimisations and cpu power of today.

I just checked if The Legend has the famous Minimoog "snappy/punchy" clipped envelope shape.
Maybe i'm doing something wrong, but the answer is: Nope.
Here i what i am talking about:

There is an envelope shape control on the second panel, but not sure if that is what you mean.

Updated my post with a link to a page with the envelope shape shown on an oscilloscope.fluffy_little_something wrote:There is an envelope shape control on the second panel, but not sure if that is what you mean.
Basically it is a very short delay between attack and decay.

As long as you only compare monophonic patches it is indeed no real problem and monophonic patches were always playable with Diva, even in Divine mode.zvenx wrote: I just believe that this Diva is a unusual cpu hog is a fallacy

If you compare polyphonic patches and also multiple instances of those you sooner or later should notice huge differences betwen Diva and The Legend (especially at higher quality modes in Diva beyond "fast" quality).
Anyway with monophonic patches that use a longer release time Diva at "Fast" quality is close in CPU use to The Legend. At highest quality it could use almost the double amount of The Legend, even with multicore is on in Diva.

I know you fell out of love with Natasja for whatever reason ( Cindy thread), but loving Marie doesn't mean you have to be so biased against Natasja .zvenx wrote:I know you fell out of Love with Diva for whatever reason, (Saurus thread), but loving the Legend doesn't mean you have to be so biased against Diva.
I have all three and will use all three. But surely in a minimoog test Diva is NOT a cpu hog compared to the others in everyday use.

I love Both Natasja , Cindy and Marie and make love with all of them .
But Surely in a relationship test Natasja is not more of a bitch compared to Cindy or Marie , after all we are all looking for love

Sure if you decide that it is against your religious belief to actually use the button labelled multicore..
I posted tests that you said you did that contradicts what you say below or you like my Orange 'friend' in the USA believe once you say it is so, it is so without actual evidence.
I am sure most here are tired of this, so if you would like pm me with two patches on one legend, one on diva that I can replicate to see what you are seeing.. please.
rsp
In an even less scientific test. I choose a brass sound in Diva, changed all the components to the MM stuff, changed to divine and of course multicore.
I then did four bars of several four chords sequence.
Then duplicated those tracks.
Using Cubase 8.5, on the Mac. With Diva I could only play 6 such tracks fine. asio meter was about 33%, but when I tried to play 8 tracks, cubase asio meter shot up and cubase wouldn't play.
Using the same sequence, with a brass patch in legend, I could duplicate this track in such a way to play 33 tracks of this same 4 channel and asio meter was around 50%.
edit 2: indeed taking off some instances of multicore in Diva allowed me to go up to 16 tracks.

If you mean the "MODULATION" controls those are controlling the way the Modwheel controls teh modulation amount. With the PITCH and CUTOFF knobs you could go beyond of the pitch and cutoff range in the real thing when using modulation of Osc3 and/or the noise with teh other Oscs or the filter.fluffy_little_something wrote:There is an envelope shape control on the second panel, but not sure if that is what you mean.
The "Shape" controls if the Modwheel (or the "MW" control in teh GUI taht represents the mod amount) acts linear (default) or more logarithmic.

Well as long as you ignore testing with poylphonic patches we do not have to discuss any further as this (and with the Unison that uses 4 voices too) is where the big advantage of the engine in The Legend is found (and to a smaller amount also when using many instances of monophonic patches at once). Anyway with the test in the post you just quited i actually used multicore in Diva as mentioned there (and also in a test in a previous post). My point was also as long as you start using multiple instances at some point the advantage of multcore support seems to disappear.zvenx wrote:Sure if you decide that it is against your religious belief to actually use the button labelled multicore..

Even for such a more or less "simple" synth sometimes having a look at the manual makes sense...fluffy_little_something wrote:Ah ok, I thought it would apply to the envelopes...Ingonator wrote:If you mean the "MODULATION" controls those are controlling the way the Modwheel controls teh modulation amount.
