I'm thinking about narrowing down some of my VSTi's, I want to use only a few. In regards to Robert's post, I think it's time I get back into my guitar and vocals. Thing is I want to record at a very high quality which means a better microphone then my sm58.

I'm really considering one of the ADK mics http://www.adkmic.com/

and the low end grace mic preamp http://www.gracedesign.com/products/101/model101.htm

A good friend of mine just got the grace and a lower end Neumann mic. I was absolutely floored at the quality of the recordings. My ears were not prepared for such a difference. I wouldn't say I have golden ears, but damn I noticed a difference straight away, no questions about it.

Any way I am curious what some people have to say about the ADK mic's. Anyone tried them, have them?

VERY good microphones. I have a few, and LOVE them to death. ADK is probabaly my favorite mic manufacturer.

very good preamp choice too. Top notch.

Robert,

can you compare them to some others. What ADK mic's have you used?

I'm looking at the Hamburg edition or the 51 TC tube Cardiod

Some ADK models are compared with Neumann !!! Are very beautifull and price is low .
Look at 3daudioinc.com/forum and search "ADK" .
User "IVO" compare Neumann with ADK (there are MP3 !!)

I cant really compare it to anything, all mics have their own sound... even the same model...

The a-51 series is great. Crisp top end, kind of thick lows (not tight really, but thick)... and the mid-range is very different depending on the model.

I have a few different a-51's they've made over the years, and 2 sc-1's... great stuff. Ive been looking at the vienna lately as well.

I really think of them as a "good" mxl. Not to say mxl isnt good, I like 2 of their mics a lot... but quality control is lacking, and some of their designs have been pretty crappy. ADK is much more solid, and they make some very very fine high-end mics.

I have the "Vienna" model and it's absolutly georgious. I also use an sc-1 on hight hat

So would anybody recomend the tube 51 or the regular 51.

would a better choice be to get a hamburg or vienna instead.

I want to record as much as I can with this mic, vocals, drums, guitars.

If you wanna do a lot with it, get the tube.. has a higher output... will work nicer on acoustic guitars, and voices.

As for guitar, I think an sm57 into that grace will blow your mind away.
