i'm building my own "producer kit" and now i'm "refreshing the roots".. :)
As i listened a few drum loop CD, i expected many similarities in the original sounds they silce'n'diced and did some post pro. (not the studio-acoustic-kits and loops) I don't like those CDs, so i wanna find the originals and do the rest myself. I'm gonna buy the CD from the artist, and sample maybe more than it's on sample CDs.
And it'll be stereo, or near to that, but not simple mono.. (sweet saturation...)

Can you help me to find the creator (or the FIRST record - artist and title)of the most used drum loops? i'm not so well-informed..

let's see what i know:

1a James Brown - Funky Drummer (title?)
1b UB40 - ?
1c-z ? :)
2a EricB. and Rakim - Paid In Full (the original?)
2b Milli Vanilli - ?
2c EMF -Unbelievable
2d PM Dawn - Send A Bliss..
3a Neneh Cherry - Trout
3b Enigma - Return To Innocence
3c Beastie Boys - ?

uhh.. no so much..

what are your favourite oldskool loops? Where to sample it from?

thank you.

Well... How do you expect to clear this with all the artists? You cannot sample away and make money off it without signing deals with all the original artists. If it's for your own use, then it's ok I guess.

This is an issue in which developers like to keep quiet. Iv asked many developers how they managed to release classic breakbeats on their sample CD's with no response. Wonder why? All i can say is that classic break beats feature on pretty much ever loops CD Iv ever bought, even big time releases like BT's 'Breaks from the Nu Skool'. There must be some kind of deal going on which the developers dont want us to hear about.

well, i don't wanna release the samples on CD. I'll keep them for personal use. Just wanna collect all the "root" samples as possible. i'm not planning to use them in the original way, but ReCycled (in SoundForge). Or just the kicks, snares..

I mentioned EMF before. Does anybody know what is the title of the Public Enemy song they used in "Unbeliveable" ("Aoouuw, hop, hop!" + extra cowbells..)? I think that's Flavor Flav's voice.

Naughty By Nature - OPP : is this containing the original beat? Or do you know an earlier song?

Mate, all these breaks are avaliable in pretty much un altered form on CD's like Vinylistics. Also, do a Google search cuz there is a site which has over 500 old breaks to download (each with a little explanation).

Oh, and if you do ever find and answer to the question of clearing / releasing these breaks you're a better man than me!

You should check out the strictly breaks set of compilations. All of the breaks you listed are there plus many more that you've never heard before.

Plus, if you haven't gotten Norman Cook's Skip To My Loops, do so RIGHT NOW. There isn't another completely cleared sample library that has that many old skool loops and breaks on it.

Finally, do yourself a favor, go to a 2nd hand store, and go crate diggin'. You will never stand out if you use the same breaks that everyone else has been using since the Fairlight. Find a rarity, sample it, clear it if you can spare the change, and tell no one where you got it.

i did google, but i found only mp3s. Without any information about the artist/title(/version)..

I found Martin Luther King's "I have a dream.." wich was the "main melody" of a club-hit last summer performed by DJ xzy(?)..

i still wanna buy those CDs, containing the whole song within.. :)
