Soundcloud plays back differently for 2 identical uploads

Hello guys, to be honest I don't even know where to put this topic but yeah here it is.

I uploaded twice the same track on Soundcloud, same mixing, same mastering, same file even. It was a 24-bit WAV file, nothing wrong with it and all BUT on two different uploads there is a hugeeeee difference between the two on a mobile phone playback.

They sound quite identical on a computer, if not identical. But when I played them back on my mobile device, the first one had major distortion and limiting but the second one was clean as hell. Same volume, same headphones plugged in.

When I download the files back, they are basically the same and they cancel each other out as expected when flipping the phase 180°.

Do anybody know where it comes from and if yes, how can I remedy the problem? Thanks :)

Post

Just wondering ... why did you upload exactly the same track twice?

Post

Wanted to have two different private links for two different people

Post

Was it also uploaded on the same day & hour?
Maybe SoundCloud has changed their loudness war strategy

Yes I thought about that but no, I uploaded them today. You can still try the experiment on your own now. Out of 10 identical uploads I get a lot of differences actually. Maybe 2 are clean and the rest have a lot of encoding aliasing and distortion (different levels and sounding). Same file uploaded of course. If you have a soundcloud app on a mobile phone, try it out :(

It's pretty obvious on my phone but I'll let people hear which one they think is the aliased one
I also noticed it doesn't have aliasing if you play it on the browser but it does it very heavily on the mobile app :?

I can't wait to hear others comment on this :hihi:

Sorry bud, but you need more help that anything anyone can provide here.

Those two are IDENTICAL in every way.

Have you downloaded the files, inverted the phase on one, and checked this for yourself? Because otherwise, you don't know, and you're not helpful at all.

The OP has a legitimate question, and he came here to try to find an answer. If you're not going to try to help, please don't say anything at all.

SoundCloud says the files aren't at the links you provided. If you've reset the private links (or changed them or made the file "public"), this can happen.

@planetearth:

You've got to be kidding? Supertroll.

Anyways, I'm going to say this: If you can't understand that both are identical, PLEASE DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL. :lol

And another thing, if someone deletes the tracks, it just proves my point.

NOW, he can post or say anything. So, why again am I being trolled because I simply said they were the same? ;)

Ah, no. Sorry. You're the "Supertroll" here, just as you've been in other threads.

In theory, the files should be identical. But something could have happened during SoundCloud's decode/encode processes. SoundCloud converts what you send them to a .WAV file before encoding it as an MP3 for streaming. It does this with multiple files at the same time, and if something happened to this one file, it could sound different. If the OP uploaded relatively low-bit-rate MP3s and SoundCloud converted them to .WAVs before re-encoding them as 128 kbps MP3s, then yes, things could change. The lower the bit-rate of the file he uploaded, the more noticeable this could be.

I didn't say it does sound different, and the files aren't available for download now. But at least I was going to try to help the OP, instead of just implying he's insane and telling him he "needs more help that [sic] anyone can provide here".
