Izotope releases Neutron: "A smarter way to mix"

I tried it out and CPU usage is not too bad for me luckily. Neutron is great and all but the dealbreaker for me is that it is not resizable. I'm getting tired of this shit. Particularly with Neutron's beautiful simplistic GUI, I'm wishing I could maximize it so I'm not seeing all the DAW action going on around it in the background. It's distracting for me. I don't get why resizability is not being done with all modern plugins especially a channel strip type plugin such as Neutron. Huge bummer.

Most likely business decisions. business and human do not go together very well. it likely all came down to money. something like this:Orbit-50 wrote:I tried it out and CPU usage is not too bad for me luckily. UX designer: "top 3 user needs and expectations include "resizable GUI" "
Project manager: "how long will that take?"
Developer: "we don't have a resizable framework so we'd have to create that. then, port the app over to the framework. about 2 months for the framework and 1 month to implement."
Business owner: "sounds expensive. and it will delay the launch. we set such and such a date for the launch and if we spend time on this framework thing it will eat into the margins on this project [subtext: my bonus is tied to meeting deadlines and margins]. so forget it. user's can do with out resizable GUI... who cares..."
UX: "but its a primary need of users and our competitors are going resizable now..."
Business: "its going to cost more and take longer. customers will buy this anyway. they buy our other products without resizable GUIs...."
UX: "we could do some primary user research with our customers to see first hand how much of an issue it is..."
Business: "that will cost money and time. so, no. I am touch with out customer team and they tell me it's a non-issue. get back to work cutting and pasting boxes and arrows, heathen"
And so it goes... don't ask me how I know...

iZotope, if you really care (
), optimize the freakin' thingie!
It looks great and it does cool things, but the CPU usage is not efficient at all. What's the point of a channel strip that recommends me settings that use 21% CPU for just one sound?
Studio One on Win7 x32. RME Fireface UC.

it seems we have to mention this again and again and again:woggle wrote: I get 4 instances of Neutron in Reaper plus 2 instances of Ozone7 on Win10
CPU averages 8.7%
Reaper reports CPU usage as a fraction of all available cycles, while most other hosts report per core - so if e.g.
with a single quad-core CPU Reaper reports 10% while Studio One reports 40%, then both Report the exact same consuption.

It isn't. It's listening to the first 4-10 seconds of whatever you choose to play through it. So for vocals you might want to play the chorus, where it's loudest and possibly most shrill and sibilant. For correcting masking, you'd choose a section where the two audio sources are overlapping.aMUSEd wrote: how can it work out a correct setting based on the first 4-10 seconds of the track?

Yes, plus I suppose I could use it just for parts of tracks.
Anyway looks like they have given me an upgrade coupon now just for having Ozone adv so I presume I could even sell all the others (although the Market place seems pretty flooded with iZotope stuff but I don't really need to charge much to break even tbh). Is it easy to sell or do you need to pay iLok fees (they are all iLok'd)

12 instances in Reaper CPU use is about 20-22% - that's not just the FX, that is total CPU - not measured with Reaper's resource monitor - which is slightly lower, maybe 18%.jens wrote:it seems we have to mention this again and again and again:woggle wrote: I get 4 instances of Neutron in Reaper plus 2 instances of Ozone7 on Win10

And as far as your supercilious world-weary response goes -I hope that sort of attitude hasn't led you to become a lonely person who others find an annoying know-it-all and unpleasant to be around after a while.
Enjoy the rest of your day

So.. I'm interested in getting the standard version of Neutron, before the introductory pricing is runs out.
But, I'm using Studio One on Windows 7.. and I'm hearing nothing good, about using this.. with either of those things.
Do I buy it anyway?.. and just wait for a fix?

Having taught thousands of IT and Engineering students UX/HCI I can say that many, if not most, really struggle to understand the needs of other people using their software or why that even matters.Chris-S wrote:In most companies, yes.plexuss wrote:And so it goes...
