I guess its a certain type of music being produced- I cant see Adele or Artic Monkeys recording there next album on it! I guess if you record a lot of real instruments/bands Fruity Loops (and even Live) would not be the DAW for you. I record mainly guitars and vox etc. to linier tracks and its all about ease of comping and audio editing (so S1 3 works for me!) but I guess if you are in to 'loops' the clues in the name!

Actually, you can do more with FL Studio than you might think. I started out with Cubase a long time ago so I do have something to compare with, knowledge wise. I do realise that old Fruity Loops actually is somewhat of what you describe but this is 2016 and Fruity Loops have transformed since the old days. I am not only into EDM but Jazz, Rock and other genres. I seldom use any loops at all except for drums occasionally. Mike Oldfield is one of my old heroes with his tubular bells and other tracks. If it is good enough for him then it's good enough for me

..and I am happy you found a DAW that you feel comfortable and satisfied with. In the end that's the whole point. FL Studio is not for everyone but it suits me and my way of doing things.

I have no idea if anyone has made a "hit record" with FL studio, but some of the demo songs are a far cry from the popular tripe out there.

No, I've had/have issues with FL studio in the past and present, but I like my truth serum

Ok it is off topic (little!). I remember in the demo of FL Studio v5 (yes many years ago), there were a demo song inside by someone (I think he is called Toby or similar to this name). It was industrial song. Wow! Still the melody echoing in my mind! Unfortunately, they stopped putting it from the next versions (6,7, ..etc).

Anyway, for FL Studio (still didn't download the demo!). I thought the question about how professional it is, has been answered 10 years ago!! I mean, with Version 5 it was already there with the main composing DAWs and especially was very popular among the young (but not only really!).

I could have been using it by now, but the problem is, it has its own workflow. Coming from Cubase/Logic based DAWs, FL Studio is not easy for me at all. It is even more difficult for me than learning the shortcuts in Reaper!

Love that Piano Roll though!

It is very difficult to say which DAW is the best even on personal grounds! I like a lot Cubase, S1, Live, Bitwig and Reaper. My main one is Cubase for now, while Reaper is for quick ideas/tests. Although I like to use the others, but there is no time for it. In the end, I have to pick one main DAW and start a project. I just found it not that practical to use more than DAW at the same time, but that's just me!

Interesting SOS lists Logic 10.1 as the leader, perhaps a misprint as that particular release did not even include Alchemy, just the introduction of Drum Machine Designer and VCAs. We're up to 10.2.4.

SOS definitely has a bit of a different slant that Computer Music, perhaps more in line with Future Music.

On the whole, I find MusicTech is in the same league as SOS. Computer Music seems to cater to the more beginner / intermediate crowd with the free plugins, etc. MusicRadar holds both CM & FM, thus has a few mouths to feed as it is not an official magazine unto itself.

This is speculation on my part, but I believe the difference in results is due to SoS's readership being more professionals, whereas MusicRadar's is more enthusiasts/hobbyists.

FWIW last year (2015) was the first time FL Studio was ever included in their poll, after readership revolt. The first poll-list they published for 2015 didn't have FL Studio so they added the option sometime after the poll opened. From what I hear FL Studio did very well, but you will never know, as they only publish the winner

At the end of the day Polls will always reflect popularity of an application for a specific market demographic. FL Studio is very popular, just check our Facebook Likes. While 710K is not huge compared to something like SiaMusic, it is up the top of the heap for any software application that isn't a game.

Well its getting drawn out by a decision to add FL Studio Mobile 3 Plugin into the installer.

So the bottom line is we don't know exactly other than any day/week now.

I am still amazed Steinberg Cubase hasnt won any of these nominations

However from what i have noticed from audiofriends , forums , gatherings , audiochat with strangers the typical future music/SoS reader is mostly Audio Engineers and Studio Owners who use their skills mostly to produce mix & master other peoples music ,

Future Music also seems to be leaning towards Artists that need the tips for recording their guitar/bass rock bands , Gear Enthusiasts , lots of Hardware synths reviewed in comparison to MusicRadar/Computer Music who are mostly appealing to the Electronic Music/EDM/Rave/HipHop/DnB scene artist.

The reason i think Cubase hasnt won is purely because of its price and the fact that it hasnt been cracked and released since version SX i think. The result is that many young people that are now in their 20's and 30's grew up learning FruityLoops,Ableton,LogicPro tools that where available for free to them or included with their mom's new birthday present Apple pc

I also cant believe how come Ableton , one of the most used DAWs around , both for live (best daw imo for lives) and production hasnt come first

FL Studio and Mobile are both amazing , first one as a DAW and the second as a sketchpad you have wherever you go. However please tell the folk who write articles and tutorials for CM/MusicTech/Electronic Musician to start including more tips for FL. In most of their topics the used DAW's are reason (???) Logic pro (ok they cover the mac dudes) and Protools and Ableton. Leaving out one of the most widely used DAWs which is FL
