parawave wrote:Yes, and I know some people will be upset about it. But since when has it become standard to deliver a fully fledged wavetable editor in every new synth? There is a difference between user imported wave resampling (aka Serum wavetables) and HQ generated wavetables. Load time and CPU, people forget that. Have you ever played long pad on Serum? Not very CPU friendly. I would like to show some 3 layer envolving spectral pads in RAPID, and compare the CPU side by side. But you will have to wait for it until release.
To me it indeed shrinks the need for Rapid.
Yea... +1

I dont really need an "editor" a-la Serum, but not being able to import anything, period, is a limitation worth considering these days, for me.

Still a very nice synth, and I want it. :)
But not hitting a $200 price point with that limitation, imo.

These wavetables are part of the basics wavetables and shure, there are a lot more basics. If you have any questions about that or if you want to see more,... let me know. :-)

Hi there M.R. :)
Are you beta tester and sound designer for Avenger as well? I saw your name there, or you are a different person?

I found it odd how RAPID has so similar functionality as Avenger!

Anyway, when both demos are out, people will test and compare everything and of course the winner will be the better product.
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Why is the 1st tab labeles 5th? :)
Is it abbreviation of "Synth"? Then maybe change font there or just put a "Synth" label.

I have to say, it's not very easy to skin the GUI. It's not really a "one picture" design. More like many tiny modules pieced toghether, to optimize GUI rendering performance (only has to redraw necessary parts). As I already stated earlier, one of the major updates will incorporate either a resizeable GUI or more responsive modules. So it is not really a good idea to let people skin the GUI, which would be changed in the next update. I certainly are thinking about it. Just want to say, the GUI will be enhanced with further updates. RAPID is not a cold product. We want to hear your ideas (but please first test the plugin), to make sure the usability gets better with every update.

The first layer (in this preset) plays a 5th sound, the second layer an arpeggiator. The default names for layers are "1.Layer | 2.Layer | .3 Layer | .." and so on. Within the preset information page you can freely rename the layer tabs and macro knobs on the top.

Hi and nice to meet you. :-) Yes that's me. I am beta-tester for RAPID and Avenger. Of course I could say which one is better IMHO, but I love my job and I want to do it in future as well. So I keep it in my mind and that's the best I can do. But I can say, that booth synths are very great. Booth have advantages and disadvantages, but surely booth are totaly modern and sounds very well.
Try not to compare them. They work completly different.
I also designed sounds for booth and for me it is a lot of fun.

To Avenger I can say something in the other thread. But in this thread the RAPID is the center point. So IMHO it is not only a big synth. Take a look at the FX section. They are not only standard. For example, the distortions are unbelivable clean, also when you play high notes and the CPU doesn't go up. The send FX is awesome. It is possible to create complete tracks with the layer and you can share effects.
Example:
Layer 1 = Bassline
Layer 2 = Lead
Layer 3 = Pads
Layer 4 = Drumloop

Layer 1 - layer 3 could now send to layer 5 which is only used for FX. So put reverb, delay, sidechain,.. on layer 5 and all layer except layer 4 are using these effects. Than you can draw an automation with the sequencer and control the effects over time. The result: pressing one key can play a complete track in only one RAPID instance with awesome effects. Than master it in the masterpage with the MB compressor and the limiter. Save it as one single preset and send it to your friend. How impressive is that?

Again back to the effects. There are many importand details, but not too much. Another example: Take a phaser and deactivate the auto-modulation. Than you can control the phaser frequency with the "from" and "to" wheels, which changes the label, when you deactivate the auto-modulation to "Left" and "Right". Now you can control the frequency by yourself. Put also a sequencer on it and have an absolut individual phaser. Same for chorus, flanger, talker.

I could carry on with the other effects. Each is very special and not standard. Parawave made thoughts about each effect and don't forget. I am only talking about the effect section. ;-)
I love this synth and use it many times.

PS: Did I say that I love the color of the rising sun?

Nice to meet you M.R. :)
There are some killer sounds you did for Avenger. Great sounds indeed :tu: They are from my favourites :)

Thanks for your explanation. I'm looking to try the demo later, although I have invested a lot of time exploring Avenger and that make it more possible to buy. The two seems really impressive synths, but I believe one of them is enough for me :hihi:

Good luck with your project :)

So let me get this straight, the layers are actual patches correct? So they are not typical layers, like a wavetable, they are actual patches that can be played alone, but then you can also layer these patches? If so thats amazing!

On 2nd look at the gui, it isnt so bad.
Imo, the line weights are just too heavy in general.

Agreed. And the font is too blocky, not rounded at all.

Demos seem nice. GUI is OK for me, reminds of Alchemy. Layout I will need to trial.

This synth will have a trial somehow, yes?
It is not iLok I hope?
