Since I changed to a new computer I have a loading problem with Cubase 8.5.
On my new computerCubase 8.5 is on SSD harddisk C:. The plug folder is on E: and I store my Cubase projects on G:.
Now it happens very often that Cubase needs 4 -8 seconds to load a plug. Also very simple fx plugs like the Cubase delay now need sometimes 5 seconds until it are loaded. While I have to wait the windows load symbol appears. I never had that problem on my old windows XP computer in that extreme way.
My new windows 10 computer has a much faster cpu and it seems to be that Cubase 8.5 works now much slower. How can that be?
Sometimes before a plug is loaded I hear a loud mechanical click noise in my computer as if one of my harddisk startet to work. Can it be that my harddisk go to sleep and started when I load a plug?
But I cannot see why. Can it be that one of my Cubase configuratios are wrong?
Or can it be that I have to change a configuration on my computer bios?
How can I avoid that a harddisk stops working and goes to sleep? But I ma not sure whether it is the problem. May be that the problem is on another place.
Many thanks for every help! :-)

i would check power settings first and switch off hdd sleep/standby. from what you have written i suspect this as the reason. in some extreme cases defragmenting of hdd (the one with plugs - im assuming it is a regular hdd) could somewhat improve the performace too. did you install sata, power management and chipset drivers? also checking if everything is set up correctly in bios might be useful.

i have similar hard disk setup and hdds are switching off after 20 mins. and i experience the same thing as you described. i simply dont mind the lag.

Are any of the drives "green" (eco-friendly)? Those have built-in power saving settings, and are not recommended for DAW use (Though they should be okay for backups).

Recently I bought SSD and cloned my HD (WD Blue) (win10 64bit home) into it, then installed Cubase 8.5 (SSD) and I'm very happy with the performance, but I have the plugins folder in the SSD drive while most of the samples on HD.

What's your PC specs? Mine is not so old, so I didn't bother to update the BIOS for example.
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Bitwig 5, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

I'm having a similar problem with new Cubase, it takes about 8 seconds to 'save' a simple 'starter project' with very little going on, this is with a powerful 12 core @ 3.6 Hz/48 GB ram Win 7 64 bit system. Even my XP PC with old Cubase saves instantly. I have not got to the bottom of this yet, although I've tried several suggestions from over at the Gearslutz forum, where I have a post going on about this issue.

I don't know if it's an issue of a Cubase setting, my powerful PC set-up, or the knuckle head clusterphuks @ Steinberg :dog:
