edit/add: Went ahead and updated and all is good. Installers are consistently installing correctly now too. Really the best it has ever been.

Ironically, that 'bug' doesn't seem to be in that update for me and everything is working better than it ever has. Now I'm feeling some trepidation about installing this new 'patched' version.

How does one determine when the grass is indeed greener?
That's important information when you have a lifetime of updates.

Update 2 to the 'Official" September (2016.09) release is now available

Update 2 for SONAR 2016.09 is now available!
We have released an additional update to SONAR 2016.09. In this update we fixed a truncated path that would cause some plug-ins to not be scanned. In addition, there were several users who experienced trouble being able to get the most recent update to SONAR 2016.09 due to there membership end date. Users who had a membership end date in September are now able to install the most recent update to SONAR 2016.09.
New fixes in Update 2 of SONAR 2016.09
Resolved an issue where 32bit plug-in could potentially not get scanned after a reset due to a string truncation that was affecting paths for database, fault reports, bit bridge, etc.
Previous fixes in Update 1 of SONAR 2016.09
SONAR was failing to send crash dumps and could cause a possible hang
Fault Reporter was not opened when a crash was experienced
Improved handling of crashes to ensure project backup and audio hardware shutdown
String truncation was affecting paths for database, fault reports, bit bridge, etc.
Groove Clips did not follow Tempo Changes after saving and reopening a project
Having "Stop at Project End" would continue playback past the last event in the project
UAD plugs are no longer balanced when "Load Balancing" is turned ON
Say 'NO' to Clap

Install parallel versions I suppose. Keep the current version installed and install the new version to test at the same time, if Sonar allows that.telecharge wrote:How does one determine when the grass is indeed greener?![]()

Considering Sonar's propensity for injecting its own paths into my registry and its VST scan folders, that doesn't sound very appealing. No hate. Just keepin' it reals.LawrenceF wrote: Install parallel versions I suppose. Keep the current version installed and install the new version to test at the same time, if Sonar allows that.

Well, allow me to put it this way, I've owned them all at one point in time or another. Of that incredible list, sonar X2 was impossible to make music with. That and the other history I had with them (and yes I've used it since 20-40%planetearth wrote:True, but this probably also happens after Cubase, Digital Performer, Ableton, Logic and Reason updates, too. I doubt all the other DAWs have flawless update records.incubus wrote:That is beyond cool. Honestly, it's not to say that every-single person has them. But at this point in time, too MANY do. That should be a concern.![]()
Still, all the developers should take a little more time to beta-test the updates. Just as they learned as freshmen med students: "First, do no harm".

Anyways, if I've finally let "go" of studio one (though a much better product over-all), you'd think I'd finally let go of this. Maybe someday

Where exactly do you get figures of? How do you know how many do or don't? Or are you just talking out of the wrong end of your digestive tube?incubus wrote:But at this point in time, too MANY do. That should be a concern.

In fairness to all involved, we all get frustrated with these products from time to time. It happens to everyone at some point.
I also do think, as we get older, we learn not to let those feelings rule us, and like the bad memories of an ex-girlfriend or ex-wife or a former boss who was a world class arsehole, just let it go.

I agree with you 100%, but I would add that when somebody states that it is "impossible" to make music with any modern DAW, it is a symptom of the problem not being with the software.LawrenceF wrote:In fairness to all involved, we all get frustrated with these products from time to time. "Impossible" is hyperbole. "Intolerable" was where it ended up for me before I switched.JoseC. wrote:I agree with you 100%, but I would add that when somebody states that it is "impossible" to make music with any modern DAW, it is a symptom of the problem not being with the software.LawrenceF wrote:In fairness to all involved, we all get frustrated with these products from time to time.
