What program do you use to video record Cubase?

What program do you use to video record Cubase (PC), while capturing the plugin windows (some capture software doesn't see the plugins), audio from the DAW, and audio from a microphone in separate streams?

I did this for a bug report for Spire. I recorded the video with Nvidia Shadowplay (only possible with some Nvida graphics cards), and recorded the audio from the DAW in Cubase, or rather the automation changes, and bounced the audio after that, and then synced the audio to the video in Sony Movie Studio (which was pretty easy BTW). I'd like to hear if someone has a better idea though, as that's a tad complicated really.

Isn't the problem with these programs that they only record audio from the standard line outs, whereas most, if not all of us, send our daw's audio through a separate audio interface? So when you record your daw, you get no audio.
Presumably you'd have to route your audio to your computer's line outs so that the recorder can pick up the audio.
Or am I thinking of something else?

I suppose if your problem is interface/driver related you may have to resort to some creative routing, but having to use Windows Audio for demonstration purposes shouldn't be a problem.

True. However if you choose MME instead of Asio as audio device in your host this is no longer the case. This is kind of the point I was making. You need to mess with your daw's output routing, either at the daw level, or the os's.BrokenTrance wrote:True. I use Camtasia for this. You can select a specific audio device/interface to record, and you can choose whether or not to include system audio (non-DAW OS sounds) in the recording. There's a catch, though...
In order to deal with that, you either need to physically loop your DAW audio back into an input (in a way that doesn't result in a feedback loop), use an audio interface whose drivers have a built-in loopback function (all RME and MOTU interfaces can do this), or use a "virtual audio cable" type program to do this routing for you. VB-Audio VoiceMeeter seems to be pretty popular for this.
In my own setup I use my interface's RME TotalMix software to make it so I can separately mix my mic and DAW output, and then route that to a pair of inputs that Camtasia can record.
It depends on the program- Camtasia, for example, is device-aware- but usually it's not so much the fact that you're using an interface as it is that recording programs listen to your audio INPUTS, not your OUTPUTS. (The idea being that you're going to be recording your voice with a microphone, which is an input device.) This is easy enough once you know how to set it up...
1. Switch to an aggregate driver like ASIO4ALL, outputting to your default ASIO device and speakers or phones so you can hear it.
2. Like mentioned above, use the stereo mix path on your system sound card to record the audio from the master bus. This requires a direct send from the master bus, like using a hardware insert plugin to split the master bus audio and send a mult of it directly to another output.
3. If you are also doing a live voice over, use a mic in the daw like you normally would when recording and monitor it, and assign that signal directly to the stereo mix recording path, not to the master bus, so it will get recorded with the other mix audio. Hide the monitored voiceover daw track / channel so that you don't see it in the video.
4. If you want, put a comp on the master and sidechain it with the hidden VO channel so that the mix audio will always duck a little when you speak, etc, etc.

If you want more control for editing afterwards given that the audio recording is stereo, always stop the music before speaking, that way you can easily split the VO away from the music when you edit it later.
