Same here : Reaper, Hammerhead, Zap's stomper, Rebirth (and the skin/samples mods)... But mostly my XP50, a Korg MS10 and Acid... It was late 90s
Then, i got into Tracktion (which allowed to move a clip into another track, a feature which was unavailable with Acid), and quickly moved to Reaper (the first beta, wow )...

personally... after using SF since version 4... I could no longer justify the 150bucks a pop on upgrade any longer.
Audacity works just fine these days.

Magix must not want to sell too many copies of their Acid "upgrade". Previous users get the "new" version for $79.00!!!!! RIGHT! OK I know the non-upgrade is $149, but that is ludicrous too. With options like Tracktion selling for about the same as the "upgrade" , why bother? As far as I can tell I'd be paying for support for an ancient product with the Magix logo slapped on it. After all these years my need for support is minimal to non -existent, other than regurgitation I don't see $80 bucks worth of new features. I loved Acid back in the day but I'm not in the market for nostalgia.

Previous users only get an upgrade if they are on the latest version, i am one version back and my serial number is invalid, no way to download the old version (if you dont have a back up you are screwed) typical Magix crap, anybody who buys from them deserves everything they get.

I use Samplitude Pro X3 along with my first long-term DAW purchase, Live. I've seen MAGIX do great things for Samplitude and SoundForge. I first checked into a demo of Samplitude back in its (I guess) the Version 7 days and didn't get very excited about it then. In the last year or so our band's management and studio helpers people got us a deal and got all band members into using this latest Samplitude. It's all about the fact that the studio we use has the latest Sequoia (and now even Acid, it turns out). Anyway, apparently Samp and Sequoia work super well together. But the point I wanted to make is Samplitude is, like, a million times better than when I first saw it.

So this makes me conclude that ACID will be well-cared for at MAGIX, since they have continued to do great things with all their other products. I think our jaws all dropped and we couldn't believe how much Samplitude had been improved and how well it works lately, after first seeing it just a couple years ago.

when I was shopping for a company to build my first actual dedicated PC for audio work in 2006 (before that it was my laptop after years of hardware both digital and tape) I demoed Samp 8 and wasn't impressed at all. It wasn't until fall of 2006 I had P-Cal build my machine and in Feb of 07 I got an offer on a killer crossgrade to Samp 9 Pro, I gave the demo another shot and it was a no-brainer...I haven't upgraded to Pro X3 yet, but I typically wait until the dust settles with all new software. I love Samp, Pro X2 really fits my workflow perfectly.

I have no interest in Acid but around the turn of the century when I worked at MARs music I made some good money on it (then I had never even owned a computer) getting the parents that were there waiting for their kids taking lessons. We had everything on display and available to try and acid was at several desks so I would spy one such parent, show them a way to kill some time, give them my card and within a week or two I had a sale I would guess 80% of the time.

What exactly have Magix done to Sound Forge, I must be missing something ?
I should pay an upgrade fee to 11 Pro, just to have it say Magix instead of Sony ?

my first program was Acid Pro 1 which i used with Cool Edit Pro and Soundforge 3 or something... did a lot of good things with them. then i tried to move up to Cakewalk which wasn't that good at all. sony buying sonic foundry was a disaster ( not unpredictable considering some of Sony's history with software in general)..
i would still use Acid now if it hasn't been superseded so much by most others DAWS.
oh and if the midi had been brought up to scratch. by version 7 it was just utterly bloated and chocca with bugs. there is a part of me that would love to use Acid again and for a few minutes when Magix bought this stuff i felt optimistic that it may be developed further.. but no, it will just be absorbed into magix existing products, which is useless as i already own Sound Forge and Acid. I am still looking for the amazing updates in X3... no joy so far. the prices on the magix site are also utterly absurd. i wonder sometimes what their market share is. samplitude is an awesome program. but i am yet to find it mentioned more than the odd rare occasion..

The original Vegas software team in the USA still exists. I would imagine they will carry on with the other software titles also.
