I still haven't voted, I'm not sure which one to choose. Let's get a new question going here, which one, of those listed, is the fugliest? It's not the "Other" plugin for sure. That thing is a thing of beauty. It can't be one of the popular ones either, it has to be one of those obscure ones with a dev who fancies himself an artist, but really isn't, right?

And as already said Zebra, Massive, Harmor, Alchemy, Monark are a lot more popular than some of the names here (Surge, KLC, Elektro, or even Poly-ANA or DEXED), especially Massive which might well be the most popular synth right now.
I thought the question was "what is your favorite synth to use" NOT which synth do you think is most popular. I like to use Symptohm and Poly-Ana, not Massive. YMMV.
Well, popularity often goes with "I like". At least there is a strong correlation. So the fact that the aforementioned synths are missing makes this list pretty useless, which is made clear given the Other category is almost half of the votes.

And how is something like Cyclop in this list? Does that even qualify as a "synth"?

Its in there because I suggested it, and the OP added it. If its not a synth, what is it? :ud:

It was obvious from the beginning that the poll was flawed, incomplete and essentially pointless. OP would have done better to just ask 'what synth do you use the most' without a poll.

well this is all almost absolutly subjective to each persons taste, anyhow the ones i keep calling time and time again:

Omnisphere
Alchemy
Icarus

then there's a LOT of synths i call up frequently and others every now and then. With all the GAS over the years i have a bunch of stuff i hardly ever use now (mostly effects), even if they're good too ;) :hail: you need to experiment/demo and see what fits you

in the end it all comes to personal tastes, there's a bunch of synths i've demoe'd multiple times, i like them but they're not what inspires me/beneficts my workflow the most and let me add a little side discussion...-----> :ud:

the effects you chose to use also make a diference, it's like cooking, you have all these spices but some things go well (or better) with other things... you can say pepper is "good" but there's dishes you cook where pepper doesn't fit the best with the rest of the ingredients :harp: and so this goes down to the final conclusion that (these days with so many many great vst instruments) it's not so much about a single instrument, it's about the processes and how you use them and combine everything together, but SURE .... you can't make Apple Pie with Oranges ;)

All you OTHER selectors hare hard to please. KVR lets me only list 30 (yes I missed Massive). I list some of what you request and noone picks them anyway. So lets just keep this poll to the popular ones. If you use Massive please put it in the comments. If you are into some crazy complicated softsytnh and your the only one who is using it, then it is doubtful that your 1 vote will have much bearing on the results anyway. I didnt consider Abletons softsynths so if you use those please put that in the comment. In the end there should be comment support for all the OTHER votes. If not well theres nothing more I can do about it.

This does seem to be a fairly underrated product. Not saying it's on my top whatever, but some good sound design can be had out of it, and the factory presets are well thought out for the most part.

There's no one single go-to for me, probably a 3-way tie between Massive, Zebra HZ and Diva (at any rate, those are the ones for which I've programmed the largest number of my own patches).

Thanks everyone the results are in.

If you put other but didnt specify which one in the comments you didnt get credit in the results. 17 Others are unaccounted for.

The thing that was revealed to me is how unpopular FM synthesis truly is. Companies who promote FM as the greatest thing will be disappointed in the future unless someone comes up with a way to make it easier to program and deliver results consistant with expectations.

Omnisphere, Zebra, and FM8 near the top is meaning unpopularity for FM??? No.

Most obvious conclusion is maybe this unpopularity for modular or lacking many presets, not for specific synthesis types.
Softube Modular, Aalto, ACE, all and so many like this having low votes tho Diva, Serum, Spire, and Omnisphere having many.
Few presets modular versus many presets simple signal flow ! Learning curve workflow versus easy workflow. Easy to break presets versus press-button-get-sound.

I think maybe you are giving so much undue credit to casual synth users that they prefer specific synthesis types like this??? They prefer no such thing. They prefer only good sounds of presets and easy tweaking or simple creation of them. Already we know this for many years. Success of romplers as Nexus tells us such things.

The only thing this poll should have revealed to you is that unscientific polls are not scientific and thus not reliable for making any significant inferences (and, yes, I'm a scientist so I know a thing or two about this). To claim that FM synthesis is "unpopular" is absurd. It's presumably less than popular than subtractive synthesis, but this poll isn't designed to answer that question and probably informs you less than an anecdotal reading of thread topics in the Instruments forum would tell you.

By the way, I chose Retrologue. Can anybody here tell me if it's any good, since I've never tried it?
