16-Oct-2016: Voxengo is happy to release a new major version of its Marquis Compressor plugin. Marquis Compressor is a “universal” compressor AAX, AU and VST plugin for professional music production applications. You’ll find a very smooth compression performance in this compressor, coupled with a harmonically-rich sound, both suitable for mixing and mastering. Being “universal” this compressor can be used on a wide range of sound material: individual tracks, stems and mixes, producing “clean” or “colored” sound.

Marquis Compressor plugin was built around a tube triode-modeled amplifier cascade. At low Drive settings this cascade produces a mild harmonic coloration while at higher Drive settings you can get a brutal tube saturation which works great for drums, bass and vocals. At moderate Drive settings this cascade can add a pleasant grit to the mix.

Marquis Compressor features a unique “round” signal level detection algorithm, which creates a very open, punchy, compressed sound with an impressive transient response. Beside this, Marquis Compressor offers a classic feedback (opto) compression mode switchable to a more common feed-forward compression.

Marquis Compressor carries 3 distinctive compression algorithms, one of them (T3) being modeled after a classic analog compressor. The Gate algorithm is also available which is handy at reducing drum bleed in drum tracks.

Marquis Compressor features:
  • 3 compressor modes
  • 3 amplifier modes
  • Feedback compression mode
  • Auto make-up gain
  • Gate/downward expander mode
  • External side-chaining
  • Key signal filtering
  • Stereo and multi-channel processing
  • Internal channel routing
  • Channel grouping
  • Up to 8x oversampling
  • 64-bit floating point processing
  • Preset manager
  • Undo/redo history
  • A/B comparisons
  • Contextual hint messages
  • All sample rates support
  • Zero processing latency

Demoing it now. In my very brief experience with this plugin I should say that it is absolutely top of the line tool. I’m trying it on acoustic instruments and getting good results much faster than with my other compressors, even though, I’m still unfamiliar with the majority of possibilities it can offer.

I’m currently overloaded with a multitudes of compressors that I’ve been accumulating over the years and yet, this one is very tempting. Bravo!

Sonically is this identical to v1? I was a huge HUGE fan of v1 and have missed it dearly since I moved to Mac a few years ago - is this a new plugin that's just inherited the Marquis name, or is it *the same*?

It is not exactly the same with its "new" mode. But it has legacy modes T1 and T3 which are almost the same except that they have a bit shifted timing constants (have to use a different attack and release times). What's more important is the Round mode and harmonic coloration is there.

What's the deal with the graphic in the background?

It's a breast star (order), "for faith and loyalty" - something given by a king to a marquis.

Hmm, mightily tempted - there is a rather generous upgrade price for version 1 owners as well :)
(though the value of the pound on the global market means it's a touch more expensive for Brits)

I own version 1, but I don't see an upgrade price in my user area...

That's because you've already used the upgrade benefit before to cross-grade to Deft compressor.

Ah! I didn't realize that. :)
