Ugh, that's rather shocking!sfiks wrote:wagtunes, I would very much appreciate if you could give me some details of your point of view on my piece "after watching Amphibian Man", which by your definition is below average (2 points)wagtunes wrote: I know an average track of music after 40 years of composition.
Thank you.
By minute 2 it really takes off and turns from pure ambience into more and more gorgeous music! I drift off into your vision, your curious and rare terrain from days of gloriously quirky films. But- almost Ed Wood like- passion and sensitivity oozes from every audible thing.
I- hands down- LOVE IT!
But, similar to cymatics "troubles", it's the lack of patience that makes those songs difficult for people to immediately appreciate. I mean, ontrack's comment on my song was right away: "Great piece, but it's way too long, you should edit it down". I thought that was peculiar, since there was virtually no part that could've been any shorter, meaning that he wanted me to cut off entire sections, like saying: This dog is too big, cut off the legs, please!
So, yeah, patience is a bitter enemy.
Oh, man, I'm listening to rockingricky's track right now, which was quite great, too!
Anyway... Slava, you've created a fantastic piece there, which I'd hang on my wall, if it was the picture it makes me see!

not so simple, Taron, you can't just say that "people" don't appreciate those tracks only for lack of patience.
I can speak only for myself of course, I have plenty of patience while listening. <wink>

Congrats to the winners!
But we're all winners!
Even if I loose, I win. Experiences and knowlegde that I gained during this challenge are more then points and placement. Why?
Because this is The Way of The Warrior!

Who ever hasn't figured out that you are exceptional in many ways could mistake your sunny response as viable counter to my observation!liqih wrote:not so simple, Taron, you can't just say that "people" don't appreciate those tracks only for lack of patience.

Well, I admit I don't understand what you mean with "viable counter" here, what I simply say is that one can have the patience to listen to a 10 minutes track for 10 times and still not being able to appreciate it. So saying that the lack of patience is the culprit is just a weak excuse.Taron wrote:Who ever hasn't figured out that you are exceptional in many ways could mistake your sunny response as viable counter to my observation!liqih wrote:not so simple, Taron, you can't just say that "people" don't appreciate those tracks only for lack of patience.

Am I missing something, because all I see is the preliminary scores, and no breakdown on how many of each point someone was given.RichardSemper wrote:its here -alvfaria wrote:I'm not asking so much, just ONE 5 points!![]()

This is my point of view of the results, and I think we're all great!

(Rows and columns ordered by rank)
More seriously, yes, I love to look at the data. I don't care too much about my personal rank (which seems to go slightly up every rare occasion I participate, haha). What I care for the most about all the data is: How do I score in the eyes of the top guys, and those whose tracks I liked. The top guys, because they definitely know what they're doing, and the other ones, because I guess they might be like-minded, so they might even better feel where I failed or did ok.
That's what I learn from the data.
And then there's my personal view on what I do. Another track, somewhat finished, sort of, maybe bad in some spots, maybe good in some others. Either way, an achievement, track done, and hopefully learned something.
Competitions like this - it's not for everyone I guess. If somebody ends up frustrated each and every time, and the pros don't outweigh the cons, maybe it's really better to quit, and simply do and enjoy their very own thing.
I find it pretty tough to get a 1, when all I want is a 5, haha, but then again, I want true opinion, not some friendly nonsense I can get from any old relative IRL. If it's coming with constructive criticism, that's great, but even when it's not, I learn something from the bare fact. So yeah, even a 1 without any further comment is a valuable feedback IMHO.
Enough rambling, congrats to the winners, congrats to every participant.

So, what you're saying is that my attempted advice to Slava and Cymatic to take in account a lack of patience would be futile, because their songs wouldn't have worked either way in your opinion, which is of such great importance that they need to hear that kind of feedback over the sincere but redundant praise of mine and subsequent encouragement so as to not doubt the outstanding qualities of their musicianship, right? Just wondering...liqih wrote:Well, I admit I don't understand what you mean with "viable counter" here, what I simply say is that one can have the patience to listen to a 10 minutes track for 10 times and still not being able to appreciate it. On the subject of length of track.
I grew up during the era of the 7 to 10 minute song
Autobahn (22 minutes)
Inna Gadda Da Vida (Sp) (Who remembers? LOL)
Court Of The Crimson King
And the list goes on and on.
If a song is great, I don't care how long it is. I'll listen to it. If it bores me to tears, I'll turn it off after 3 minutes, maybe sooner.
It's not the length. It's the quality.
And not how much time it took you to do it.

Absolutely no! Sorry if I'm not clear enough. There's no suggestions of "because their songs wouldn't have worked either way" in my words,Taron wrote:So, what you're saying is that my attempted advice to Slava and Cymatic to take in account a lack of patience would be futile, because their songs wouldn't have worked either way in your opinion, which is of such great importance that they need to hear that kind of feedback over the sincere but redundant praise of mine and subsequent encouragement so as to not doubt the outstanding qualities of their musicianship, right? it seemed to me that you was saying that shorter tracks have greater chance to be appreciated,
hence saying to Slava and Cymatic that they must consider that not anyone has enough patience for longer tracks.
I said that it's not so simple : 3lu5iv3 track is very short and it's at the bottom, yours is very long and it's the winner!
So to take in account a lack of patience is not 100% futile but it's not the main point either, by far.
Many people have appreciated your track even if it required patience to listent throught.
Many people haven't appreciated 3lu5iv3 track even if it's just or less than 2 minutes.
I can't offer no exaustive explanation of why Slava and Cymatic tracks haven't been appreciated enough,
but I care to say that the "patience" cuprit is weak. We need to look into many more aspects of the tracks, and the people
listening. That is only my small criticism of your sociological explanation. <grin>
Nothing to do with those tracks per se.
