Is Dune2 kind of legacy in terms of sound quality (compared to Legend, that is, simply as the developer's coding and technical skills increase; I know Dune2 is rather popular and among the best of standard synths).
Different synths i would say. Dune 2 rather reminds me of Roland synths, especially the filters. Legend's oscillators are more beefy, filter sounds different, envelopes are more snappy (Hi Teksonik!), and overall character is quite different, i would say. Why not demo it? Same demo limitations as Legend, 1 month unrestricted use, IIRC.

I know, but I already had the demo on my computer in the past, so no more demo mode

Roland as in cheesy and slow? :hihi:

I regret now selling Dune 2 because I miss it. I thought it can be replaced with another synth, but no!
It sounds clear and thick. It has enough good filters to make good basses and pads. Actually it can do everything. But Legend still better for vintage sounds, while Dune 2 is overall great synth.
I have a good collection of vintage sounding synths, so I might not buy the Legend, but Dune 2 I'll buy it back soon because there is nothing like it or better :tu:

Anyway, tomorrow I'm getting new 6.5" monitors (I stopped listening with headphones for over a year now because they exaggerate the sound) and I will compare again with my 4.5" ones of what I have :)
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

You should hear DUNE 2 and The Legend (all synths actually) through my 12" Cerwin Vegas. Wonderful Mids and Highs and more Bottom End than Niki Manaj. :hihi:

More than Niki Manaj? I'm sold then ;)

Why there was a need to sell it and search for a replacement?

The short answer is "Stupidity" and the long answer is:
I thought to have an easier synth to program because Dune 2 with all these layers was confusing and with similar or better sound quality. But when spending enough time now with demos of other competitors, I realised I prefer Dune's sound more.

Well its hard to get around with only 1 synths, i mean not by sonic terms but psychologicaly. I think it was a wrong move to sell and search for something else. I advice instead to get something esle but keep something i thought is great. I know it costs money but only in time you can see if what your new aquired gear worth to you. :)

Ideally yes, but anyway there are many seductions out there other than Niki Manaj and it is difficult to say "No thanks" sometimes :hihi: So, sins, I mean mistakes are unavoidable!
Oh damn you Teksonik! You have linked Dune 2 to Niki Manaj in my mind! :x

Dune2 is not fat, ugly and talentless...

You are so boring bro!
Nope! There is no solution for that!

Nope! But I'm not classy as you are. I'm just a poor person living in a Maori/Pacific neighbourhood and they talk like that!

You are not alone, sometimes we make such mistakes. In my case it was selling Sylenth1, maybe I will buy it a second time if that is possible :P
I have also been looking for a single plugin that is, well, perfect and does everything I need and the right way. But I have come to realize there just isn't any, unfortunately. There is something wrong (in my view) with each and every one of them...

Yes, I think you are right. I also sometimes try to have one "perfect" synth, but actually there is none! There is always something "missing" (I can't say wrong, but missing).

I have just triggered Dune 2 and Hive. The two really are different. In some ways, Hive sounds nicer, but Dune 2 in other situations (presets) can sound so great. Anyway, IMO, now we are in the second era of software synths which many of them sound very convincing to let go at least the VA hardware. It is a great time after all to have such synths :)
