I’d like to echo some of the comments about propaganda like push in the plugin market. It is like taking a sandwich, flipping it upside down and then claiming that “this groundbreaking approach” will forever revolutionize the nutritional value for the sandwich eating community.
There so many things that are actually innovative and yet, totally understated in their descriptions.
This reverb wouldn’t even t hold a candle to so many other reverbs that are out there. I’d say that earverb is the absolute king in this area – it is insane how good it is. Flux reverb is also phenomenal in creating resonant rooms and transparent spaces with a very effortless interface. Acon is not a slouch either. Then we also have Phoenix etc, etc.
BTW There was a Russian guy who recently made his verb available for free, somewhere here. I’d say, that in my very subjective opinion, it beats the pants out of the bx-m/s verb.

Don't market it as the one plugin which rules them all, and which is totally unique, and never-seen-before - no sales. As simple as that really. If you want to criticize something, then criticize the recipient, not the bringer.Tapehead wrote:I’d like to echo some of the comments about propaganda like push in the plugin market. Just had dinner by the way, and ate premium bread with premium butter, and premium lunchmeat. From a premium table, with premium dishes.

So has anyone actually tried it & got anything to say about the actual plugin, rather than another tedious rantfest?

I am demoing it. I am also a reverb junkie. I think it sounds very nice, smooth and clean and realistic. Reverbs from different devs have a different sound depending on how they coded it. So for me it comes down to a) does it offer anything new or at least less redundant compared to the many reverbs I already have and b) is it something I'd use (and c) price).
I will need to work with rooMS more on different sources to form an opinion. But on first listen, it strikes me as a reverb worth spending some time with in order to determine its value to me. As I mentioned I am a reverb junkie and own many commercial reverb plugins. I prefer algorithmic 'verbs as well.
So at the moment I would say that rooMS deserves some more demoing because my first impression was good.

Anyone interested should demo. I can see people either liking it's fundamental qualities or not. I personally do like it's sound, it should be great as a functional mixing reverb, not so much for sound effects maybe, but so far I don't think I'll bite.

Of course not. Al Gore invented MS processing, right before the Internet.e@rs wrote:^Dirk didn't actually said he invented M/S...

LOL - I am, but haven't really made up my mind about it yet. First impressions are that I like it, but do I need another reverb? I have Breverb 2, EaReverb 2, 2C Breeze & B2, Valhalla Room & Vintage. I find that I return time & again to EaReverb, it just gives me the sound that I like quickly.Robmobius wrote:Get of yer' ass and try it for yourself...virtualpt wrote:So has anyone actually tried it & got anything to say about the actual plugin, rather than another tedious rantfest?

Well, whatever one might think of their new reverb or their focus on MS - I'm glad they are back making new plugins. For the longest time the only news in their newsletter was new deals. I'm a bit on plexuss side here - also a reverb junkie. But I just bit the bullet and bought a Strymon BigSky so I guess I soon will be floating away on fluffy clouds...

I can't say it made me think I need this. It has some useful sound/reverb design features but they are things that already exist in the Lexicon PCM reverbs (as well as IK's CSR), such as the way that the output image is put together – you can do the thing where you can flip the stereo image over, as well as do stereo-spread and imaging control, as you might expect with an M/S-focused plugin. But if you already have CSR or a Lexi, you already have most if not all of this tucked away on an advanced tab somewhere.
It is surprisingly resonant, and not in a good way, though it's a characteristic that might be useful in some instances. The built-in EQ will help control the resonance that but with things like Nimbus floating around: why? I thought with the blurb about a continuously alterable space it might take to modulation – but it zippers. I also wasn't convinced by the source position control – Melda's MReverb is better at this.

Not interested : not incredibly different from the reverbs I already own, not many parameters to keep you busy trying to discover new combinations, and most of all, I strongly dislike the modulation sound. B2, Redline, Aether, V-Verb, Eareverb2 and Blackhole still rule my world.

The more I play with this, the more I am liking it. It's definitely a buy for me. I really like the sound of it. But I am not going for realism. On pads it reminds me a lot of Virgin Era Tangerine Dream reverb sounds. I love the way the tails decay, I can't get any of my other reverbs to sound quite like that. I'm not saying it is better than any of those, but it is different. Different enough for me to buy

I think you're overreacting a little bit, bmanicbmanic wrote:THIS IS NOT TRUE!!!Mercado_Negro wrote:Well, they certainly didn't invent it but they were the first company which put it in a plug-in and keep it in all their Brainworx line so yeah, in some degree they're pioneers in m/s.bmanic wrote:"..from leading m/s developer." How ridiculous is that? A process that is incredibly simple to achieve (anybody can do it with a real mixing desk or virtual channel strips in their DAW. It's been used for more than half a century and then these people come along and market it as something special.
Man.. I just loathe this company.
EDIT: And judging from the demo video, I'm not impressed. Granted, one needs to try the demo to give any final verdict but I don't think my Valhalla collection or Phoenix Verb is in any danger of being dethroned.
That's why I hate them so much. This such friggin BS that it makes me mad. Just because they ADVERTISED and kept lying about it has obviously changed the public perception but this is not at all true.
Voxengo had his MSED plugin out a LONG TIME before that. There were also multiple freeware plugins that included Mid/Side processing of one or another kind.
Holy hell.. seriously people? You believe the brainworx story now? They deserve zero credit for it and it pisses me off that they have been able to persuade you guys.
EDIT: I even remember calling them out on their bullshit when they released their first ever plugin with M/S processing, ridiculing them for the words they used and the obvious marketing of something that is completely trivial to achieve. It's almost like creating a synth and saying "For the first time a filter that cuts out high frequencies and is variable in it's cutoff.. we call it Low Pass Filter!".

I get Bmanic's frustration. They are not the only one's to do this.
I don't mind some marketing hype, even if you'd rather just let the product speak for itself, you kind of have to show enthusiasm, but they overdo M/S thing.

CurveEQ 2.0, 04-may-2004:
...
2. Implemented "mid-side" filtering mode which allows you to equalize mid or
side channels independently of each other. The according switch is now
located on the place where the filter design method selector was previously
located.
...
Today most Voxengo plugins have built-in mid-side processing. But I think mid-side processing was never a big seller anyway.
