I was trying to log on to HOBO nordic, to watch some series, the other day. :?
Maybe it's something in the air?
...To-nii-ight!

Sorry, couldn't resist.

So uh, bass huh? Cool.

i second the request for sound examples of fast repetitions and (possibly low tuned and distorted) rock/metal sound in general. the sounds from the demo are already pretty well covered by SampleTank 3, it's what ST3 can't do that i'm interested in.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

I have no idea what it takes to analyse / physically model a (bass) guitar but IK Multimedia / University X have now done 12, so they must have worked out a reasonable process. I'm vaguely thinking of "MODO Custom Shop" where you can buy additional individual guitars of your choice (after they have been modelled, of course). :o

Mind you, if it takes 8 years to get the first 12 basses, then we may be in for a bit of a wait. ;)

I think plugins should be as inexpensive as the market dictates. I like Klanghelm et al, sales, group buys, bundle deals etc as much as the next guy.
I don't even like Amplitube that much, sorry, not my favorite emulation at this point.

Having said all that:

This is worth the price, and there should be no bellyaching about it. It's a true, no-BS technical step forward. It sounds outstanding, and the play styles video shows that all the possibilities are there and are accessible.

Congratulations IK, you have my full attention again.

Will there be an (stripped down?) iOS version?

Did anyone notice the very high CPU usage in the demo vids (Logic CPU indicator in the transport bar) 50% plus in a lot of cases.

1) What's the copy protection of IK products? How many activation and is it possible to de-authorize? (when reformat or new PC). What happen if no activation available?

2) Will MODO-Bass users will received discount on other MODO products later? When are they due?

3) Would it be possible to include MIDI examples with MODO-Bass so non-bass players can clearly see and analyse how the keyswitches are used?

Thank you.
1) It is challenge/response. As with our other products, you get 10 authorizations and if for some reason you run into an issue IK Support is always happy to assist.

2) I cannot speak to this at this time, as we are focusing on getting MODO BASS released first. I'll surely share any news on this front in the future if applicable.

3) Good suggestion I'll let the team know about your request. Thanks!

Just asked on FB, but will ask here as well..

What's the maximum total of strings that can be added?.. and what is the maximum drop tuning available?

I produce Extreme Metal, and need to be able to tune everything.. really.. really low.. really.

Well, limited authorizations and a requirement to request extra authorizations turns me right off. That crap actually stopped me giving a crap about Ableton Live. I had been dealing with a frustrating set of system problems and was trying new DAWs at the time; i had to do a lot of reinstalls due to motherboard, audio device, and drive replacements. Finally abandoned the PC and moved to the Mac. When I went to install Live, I had no authorizations left (had no way to deactivate old ones either). Had to specifically request a new one via a help ticket. By the time they wrote back telling me about a new authorization in my account, I no longer gave a damn about Live, especially since I never really figured out how to get comfortable with it. Removed it and haven't been back to Live since v6. Same thing happened with my dongle experience with Steinberg (as well as their inability to be stable on a Mac). Waste of money for me in both cases. I am NOT a user willing to be bullied by DRM.

Normally I am interested in keeping an eye on any physical modeling product, but... Sigh. Pick a more flexible DRM system. As with pretty much all DRM, your customers are the only ones suffering, not the pirates.

A limitation of 10 authorizations seems pretty reasonable to me. I wouldn't exactly call it bullying. Waves only lets you install on one computer at a time and Melodyne 2 computers.

That is almost as long as it took Sample Tank 3 to be released :hihi:
Though this is something that is completely new for us and involved university R&D so it shouldn't be all that shocking an amount of time.
This is a fair point. Most PM seems to be focused around university R&D (which is then bought up by someone and trapped forever in an IP portfolio prison). PM is a lot of maths and analysis of real acoustic objects. Thinking in physics formulae isn't for every programmer (and fewer paired with the rest of the skills needed to bring a pretty product to market). I suspect that this, and the IP jail problem, is why there's so little PM being done.

Pretty reasonable compared to things that are worse. I don't do my comparisons that way as it leaves zero room to aspire to greatness when you make yourself feel better by comparing to third world nations (political analogy, not calling IK, Waves, or Melodyne a 3rd world nation).

I also have no interest in dealing with Waves or Melodyne.

When you have repeat system problems that kill activations, maybe you'll find ten is just enough to get through that problem time, but not enough for the rest of your product-using life.

Anyway, to each his/her own. My tolerances are different from yours.

I always build my own systems so I'm generally pretty good at troubleshooting. Although sometimes computers have a mind of their own which can indeed be very stressful. Especially if you hit a wall when it comes to reactivating software. The feeling of being punished as a paying customer is certainly a reality during these times of stress. I respect your opinion of course.

The custom shop thing turned me off of IK products years ago.
Just too annoying for me... I didn't even grab the recent freebies
because of it.

This looks interesting though. Anyway, my problem with their system
is strictly a personal opinion.

For everyone else, it definitely looks like fun.

I will keep my eye on it.
