Cheers, Georg :D

Why not listing a few favourite songs?

- White mountain - Trespass

- supper's ready - Foxtrott

- cast-utility and the coastliners - Foxtrott

- seven stones - Nursery Crime (that's one of the Genesis albums I like least all in all)

- dancing with the moonlit knight - Selling England

- firth of fifth - Selling England

- after the ordeal - Selling England

- the cinema show/aisle of plenty - Selling England
(I  how the record ends with the theme it started)

After that all the records sounded the same...

Yes, 'wuthering heights' is a fantastic novel :D
(though I only read it in german )

Note to self: Must start a 'favourite classic literature'-thread one day :D

'After that all the records sounded the same...' - I am kidding of course...I will continue later

Yay a thread for all us closet proggers. i certainly wouldn't start with loachm's suggestion of From Genesis to Revelations as producer Jonathan King added loads of soapy strings to the songs and ruined it. Time for Revelations... Naked perhaps?

Certainly start at Lamb..., Foxtrot, Selling England, Nursery Cryme and check out pre-Phil Collins Trespass (fave track Stagnation).

i also like Wind and Wuthering but not Trick of the Tail. To me Wind... sounds earlier musically than Trick... even though it came out the following year. After Wind... i would pretty much stop (i did).

If you like what you hear you'll be wanting to buy M-Tron for sure (assuming you don't already own it of course).

"It's one o'clock and time for lunch, tum-de-tum-te-dum..."

The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is one of the seminal albums of the 70's. To me it sums up much of what came before it and looks far ahead to trends that developed over the next decades including punk and new wave and synth based music.

I think the phrase 'let us make man in our image' features early in Genesis.

Squids, don´t you feel well? :-o :o
Ahhh, now I get it ... you made a joke.

For me the best ones are the ones from the Gabriel era and (with some restrictions) the next 2 following albums.

I'd have to go with:

Thunderforce II
Ghouls 'N' Ghosts
and
Herzog Zwei
GLHF! (Gandalf Lives, Hobbits Forever!)

They were f**king rubbish.

If anybody wants to see live the original ´The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway´ Tour from 1974, look here (click on the Tour link):

I have seen their ´Foxtrot´ and ´Selling England...´ tours and I was very impressed. This group ("The Musical Box") is very authentic - highly recommended to every early Genesis fan.

I don't think there is a bad Genesis record, but the Gabriel records are (IMO) more powerful. The "Lamb" is a must own classic.

Any P.C. bashing should be tempered with a listening to any of the "Brand X" records he plays on.

A band that copied the Genesis vibe, that I never hear about, "Marillion". Seems have a Love or Hate relationship among Genesis fans. I'm curious how KvR crowd feels about them?

'Marbles' is quite definetely one of the albums of the year and they would deserve a lot more attention and respect. (has nothing to do with Genesis nowadays b.t.w.)

Copied is the word - I believe they diversified their sound somewhat eventually to get a wider following but by then I was sick of their plagiarism - mostly just rehashed Trespass.

that is only bullshit and a stupid cliché

Sorry to be so harsh, but few things annoy me more.
Repetition of false clishés is theft of respect.
