fell Lo-fi tune. Nice choice of sounds, but the song need to develop more.

rmus7 Nice space tribal. I like the shred guitar.

barnadine Nice low key performance. Nice vocals.

markelford Great tune. Nicely arranged and a real hoot to boot. I'll never vote for that bastard.

col g A little electronica. I like the piano/acoustic guitar interplay in the middle.

erki Floaty athmospheric type song. Nice string sounds but could use more development.

koorby Nice orchestrations and nice dynamics.

sepheritoh Real nice recording on the acoustic guitar. Good interplay with the strings.

bagungie Nice use of sounds and well recorded. I like the synth stabs coming in about 1:00 and the synth outro solo.

haghi Alterna-rocker. Kind of dark sounding but nice guitar sounds.

paradiddle Nice drum track propels this elecro-rocker. Could use more development.

shane sandler Nice celtic/world overtones and I really like the dumbek sound. Great violin patch!

ioxx Another quirky cabaret tune. I love this stuff. Great instrumentation. The recording has an 'old vinyl' sound that nails the period feel. I feel like I'm in some European cafe. Oh shit, I'm really in Ohio.

guitar jeff Great recording! Nice vocals, great guitar tone and a guest shot from the motor city madman himself!

pheeleep Nice choice of sounds. Good drum track.

Deccabuddy sounds kind of interesting! What is it exactly?
My pleasure Jeff, your song deserves praise, it's good.

Decabuddy: http://www.akaipro.com/int/plugs/dbuddy.html

It can do your 4-part harmony in one pass and in perfect pitch. Run four instances of it panned around and you'd only ever have to sing your melody line in the chorus.

I used it on a gospel track I did earlier this year and ended up creating a southern gospel choir with 100 voices in my chorus!
Hey Koorby,

Thanks! Do you have a link to that Gospel tune? I'd like to check it out. :)

Deccabuddy sounds pretty cool, but I do kind of like doing all of the parts myself. It's fun and challanging. Still, it'd be great in a pinch if it sounds convincing!!

Cheers!

I loved it!
The only thing I'd change would be to make it Longer! It was over way too friggin soon. Damn you -You had almost a whole minute left - Why???
I thought i should just give you the tastiest bits and I didn't want to cut verses from it to make it fit.

Theres no rule that every tune has to be a full two minutes. i think 3 minutes would be better. One and a half minutes was short enough to post a clip but 2 minutes people want to hear a whole song almost.

OK Kiddies it's Review Time :-o :-o :-o

As with last time, take them with a grain of salt unless they are good. :D Remember that I am an opinionated asshole and my words are just my initial brutally honest impressions and don't really mean squat for the most part. :D I am listening on AKG K240 headphones.

12 Foot Lizard - Donkey Tugger

Nice Modern Rock sounding piece! The progression instantly reminds me of "Anyway You Want It" by Journey. G, D/F# and Em right? :-) Only the first part sounds like ELO. The rest could be right at home on a Goo Goo 20 record ;) Nice production and singing.

Beleza - Freeztar (and friend?)

Bossa Nova! I really like the first half. Very authentic Latin Jazz. You and your Lady Friend sing well together. Of course there is the The inevitable comparison to "Girl From Impanema".... I'm sure the second half is well done also, but it doesn't really seem to fit in my opinion.

The Chimp Who wasn't There - Duncan Parsons

I really like this. It sounds like an "Album Cut" from Steely Dan. Sorta Like "Throw Back The Little ones" or something. You have Fagan's singing style pretty well nailed. My main criticism would be that some of the vocal phrases could be better during the fast part. If I were producing, I would have had you do some more takes of certain lines. Particularly the "Pina Colada" line with the P-pop that sounds rushed. It is Still one of my favorites though.

Raindance - Wolpeka

Very interesting. Almost polka-like. Your singing is really cool on this. It fits it well.

After Eve - Mr. Me

Nice bells and EP. Not really my cup of music, but well done.

Jubwha- Beardedone

I really like this! Nice chords. I am very partial to Jazz Fusion so this will score well for me. I'd like to hear, say, some Norman Brown or Maybe even Brett Garsed type guitar in there as well, but a fabulous job nontheless.

Loosing Remix - Blue Days

Sounds like something my Wife would use to teach her aerobics class. I am not a huge fan of Dance re-mixes, but I can't fault the job you did. Very nice. I have a feeling I'd be more into the original version though.

Ergopro - Farkular

Interesting track. Not really sure if it goes much of anywhere, but it's a fun ride nontheless. Good job.

Upturn by FST

Techno is not really my thing but this is well done. The guitar solo is a welcome change from the rest of the tune.

Ninety Four - Bastien Phillips

Doesn't really seem to go much of anywhere. Very repetative. Not my cup of music. Sorry.

50 Second Getaway - Richiebee

Groovy man!! I really like this track a lot. What a great '70's vibe. Great drums!! I love the horns too. One of my favorites this month for sure!!

She's Alive - Kriminal

Not my thing, but very well done and holds my attention nicely anyway. Good job!!!

El Futuro De Humanidad - Spyro

Wow, if only I didn't really dislike rap. The vocals are really, really good once the rap section is over. Objectively speaking, fantastic job. Subjectively speaking, it's not for me.

Ceycal - Ianweb

Some nice melodies here. I'm not sure I like all of the noises and stuff but you did a nice job of mixing them together.

Crave It - Earthtones

The 80's live!!! This is an outstanding track. Great tune, great singing, and very good production. Probably my #1 pick at this time. I wouldn't change a thing.

I Lost My Robot - Lady J

Damn this is catchy!! This is the one I go around singing in my head this month. My only complaint is that it needs verses to go along with that infectious chorus. Nice work.

Tugger Jazz - Dave Spiers

Uh....... Really good for the most part. Why the burps though? That kind of ruins it for me. It must be interesting to have other contestants writing songs about you like Sleek and DT have.

Acid Country - Baggio

An apt title. I'm not sure why, but this reminds me of Guns And Roses for some reason. They must have a song with a similar progression or something. Nice job.

Smashid - Mystahr

Again, not my thing. But well done.

To Die For - Glooper

Nice song. I think the vocal is too soft in parts. From 1:30 on, the song sounds a bit stiff, beat-wise. Nice use of various instruments throughout the tune though.

Sweet Summer rain - Andreas E.

Really nice. I like the use of the Mellotron, but it may be a tad loud compared to everything else. I don't know if I'd master a track like this quite that loud, but I do like it a lot.

Chloe Chloe - Plunge

Reminds me a bit of Counting Crows. Very nice piano playing. It Touches my heart because I have a little girl I feel the same way about.

Ariel Nova - Tristeza Orange

New Age-ish I guess. It reminds me of this bookstore near here where they play misic like this and burn incense. Well done, though not my thing.

Free For All - Thomas Christensen

You stole my song title!! :-) :D This is interesting. A little dissonant for my taste and the production is a little noisy. I like the guitar at the end.

Less Than Serious - Jebudas

Doesn't really go anywhere. I don't know what else to say. Sorry. :(

Cheeso-

Can't D/L sorry :(

Days - Knockman

Whoa dude!! I just had a serious flash back. I didn't realize that shit was still in my system after all this time. Seriously, this is a great track. Captures the Psychedelic mood perfectly.

System ERA - Overboard

Haunting is definitely the word for the Piano. Very nice. I'm not sure about the drums. They sound a bit strange. Vocal is hard to understand in places. Nice song though.

000 - JDG

Doesn't really seem to go anywhere. Maybe a horror movie soundtrack. I' m not big a fan of Stylus loops with record noise. Not bad, just not my thing at all.

Tribals In Space - rsmus 7

Again not really my thing, but it holds my attention because it constantly has new parts and is somewhat catchy. Again, the guitar solos are unexpected and welcome.

Heartbeat - Barnadine

Nice acoustic guitar. Good singing too. It sounds a bit like Chad And Jeremy from the '60's I didn't care for the noise effects that start entering at around 0:46. If it were my song, I would have added a harmony vocal so the last verse would be like a duet. But that's just me. Good job.

Don't Let The Sleek Month Win - Markleford

Hehehe. Hilarious and well done as well. Nice '80's era Ska. Great singing too.

August 2 - nikP2000

This doesn't really feel like it's going anywhere for a long time and there are some timing issues. It does pick up and get much more interesting around halfway through. I think it needs vocals. I can almost picture Page/Plant doing a track like this.

I Feel Much Better - Col G.

This is neat sounding. I like the theremin and the break in the middle. I'm not sure about the guitar though.

Fly -Erki

This should be used for the Olympics. Nice music that is well done.

Reflectitudes Movement 1 - Koorby

Very nice emotional piece. I really like it a lot. Nice Piano Playing and the orchestration is top notch. Very enjoyable indeed. In my top finishers for sure.

Searching for #9 - Bagungie

Smooth Jazz with a bit of a twist. I really like your instrumentation. I especially like the Styx sounding synth right at the end. Nice production too. My only critisism is that The beat sounds a bit stiff and repetative in places.

Way To Freedom - Sepheritoh

Nice orchestral sounds. It Sounds like movie soundtrack music for sure. Good job.

Crossing Borders - Haghi

Interesting but a bit too distorted for my taste. I wish I could hear the guitar at the end better.

I meant It - Paradiddle

Not my thing at all. It just sounds like the same thing all the way through for a non-techno guy like myself. It does certainly sound fine though, just not my thing.

Nico Was A Strange Girl - Shane Sanders

Irish smooth Jazz? I like this because it's really different. Good job. Nice production.

Db - Pheeleep

Another one that's not my thing, but well done. The problem with tracks like these is that I would never remember them after hearing them although listening to them is interesting.

Guitarjeff - Free For All

You are a right wing asshole just like this Ted Nuisance character and your music makes my cat break out with skin allergies.

From East Europe - Ixox

This is pretty darn cool for what it is!! Not something I'd listen to regularly, but very well done. Are the little pops and clicks supposed to be there?

And theeeere you have it. Time for a beer!!

Cheers!

Yeah, I was feeling a bit 'Bosstones' when I was doing the horns. Decided to keep the guitar more TMBG than pure ska (though it could certainly fit well!).
Great singing too.
Now that's something I never thought I'd hear  but I suppose I did agonize over the vox long enough for it to pay off: I imagine I had upwards past 30+ takes of the vocals that I had to choose between, when usually I just take my first guide track as "close enough". ;)

Thanks for the ears and words. No comment yet from Sleek himself, though: he might be giving the contest a pass this month due to its themelessness. :|

Thanks much Guitarjeff! Really glad you liked it. Sorry but I don't know these guitarist but I did feel like I should have added some real guitar but was not able to find the right vibe.

Gordon
