Competition is becoming tougher each year, especially in the particular field Propellerhead moves on (which, IMO, is mainly dance music). Also, I am suspicious that the RE move isn't paying as they thought (and hoped).

What exactly makes you think they're desperate?Kire wrote:I think it sounds like a quite desperate move from a company that already fills my inbox with marketing spam.

The reward program + the spam in my inbox = my definition of a desperate marketing campaign.chk071 wrote:What exactly makes you think they're desperate?Kire wrote:I think it sounds like a quite desperate move from a company that already fills my inbox with marketing spam.
With an updated sample library and SDK, Reason would start to sell itself I think.

Did you ever run a business, or do you know someone who runs a business? Do you know about advertising, and how it loses its value with the amount of advertising, and the variety of advertising? Do you really think you can judge whether someone, or something is desperate by the way they advertise?
Don't get me wrong, i don't think Propellerhead is doing exceptionally well either, although i do think they have a strong userbase among various musical styles, and also among institutions which teach music production, but, it often looks like people here have no idea about market economy, and also have no idea how a business works, when they complain about advertising. It's funny that you talk about marketing spam BTW, i have a PH account since years, and don't receive too many "marketing spam" as you put it.

Well, without any figures, or even the slightest knowledge of what users expect from Reason, that is what it is, an assumption, based on your own perception of what you expect from a host application. I think so too BTW. But do Reason users really feel and think so? I don't know. Do you? Like, exactly?Kire wrote: With an updated sample library and SDK, Reason would start to sell itself I think.

It's just my personal view of course, as a costumer. I'm no expert. I'm also a long time Reason costumer/user and I hope they're doing great.chk071 wrote:Did you ever run a business, or do you know someone who runs a business? I aslo use Cubase, Logic and Reaper and my reflection is that they're not even close when it comes to marketing via email and stuff.
Peace

It can't be called SPAM, because you got your email because you have done something yourself to recieve the email. Anyway, I hope the Props never go out of business because this software is worth to stay in business.

The past 5 or 6 years, Prop has made a lot of decisions that chased a lot of users away... Introducing ridiculously priced RE's, not including all variants of a plugin if they exist (most plugins you buy these days will come with VST/VST3/AU/RTAS/ect), I remember some devs complaining about their completely locked down proprietary code for RE's, closing their forums, the insulting updates to 7/8, lack of updates to their library, marketing changes to their target demographic... Somewhere along the line they became very arrogant and they are now suffering for it and as someone who is now an outsider, this looks like a desperate move to stay afloat which really isn't going to help their cause.

The offer is only valid when the "friend" buys Reason 9, which cost $399
Meaning they are giving the friends friend a 6,27% sales commission ($25), for bagging the cat
As such this is one of the skimpiest reward programmes around, 10% is for the most part a minimum other vendors use

I really wished someone could come up with some numbers to confirm the trend which people always want to read out of PH's actions, and business decisions. I always read that they lost a shitload of customers, that they suffer from the decisions they have been taking, and so on. Where are the numbers which confirm that, please?Mystic wrote:Somewhere along the line they became very arrogant and they are now suffering for it and as someone who is now an outsider, this looks like a desperate move to stay afloat which really isn't going to help their cause.

I don't need numbers when every single person I know who used Reason along with myself (which I can think of 10 just off the top of my head whom like myself, actually do this for a living) have all bailed out of frustration with their business practices and lack of support.
I'm certain that they still have customers. The fact that this thread exists is proof enough of that. I'm also certain that those customers want to back up the company they support which is fine but like I said, from my view it looks like a desperate move. Like myself, you also have no numbers to go on so you also have no idea what their actual market is. I'm simply stating my opinion on the matter and why I'm no longer a customer of theirs. No one has to like it or agree with it. I'm actually quite sad that Prop has taken the path they have because I use to quite like using Reason and believe it could have been a firm leader in what they do had the correct decisions been made.

Ok, fair enough. But, while i have no numbers either, i don't claim things. Actually, i can understand why people would turn their back on Reason, and "venture" in VST land. I see nothing but advantages there, and that's also why i use VST's in a compatible DAW. It's just that there's so much talk about business going bad, or even breaking down for PH, and i don't really see that. But then, i don't know. Maybe it's true. I just wonder why they don't sack employees then, or that it doesn't seem to have an influence on their business in any way.
