As an Apple user i must say at least that i´m much more impressed from Microsoft in the last years.
At least they are both great in making products for rich people only now.
The prices are beyond good and evil!

If "want to be like Apple" means that you have to treat your customers more and more like stupid children, who don't know what they want, then you are right though. That seems to be the trend. But then, that trend is obvious everywhere. And, frankly, the companies do have a point with that, because the average consumer gets dumber and dumber.
I think that MS wants Apple's bank balance. It's all about the Benjamins.

The problem is, by adding/removing stuff to make them more like mobile devices, they're not making them any more attractive to the post-PC people who have already moved to mobile devices. And at the same time, they're alienating the PC people who just want to try and get some work done.
I don't think they are trying to figure that out as much as people think now. They have vastly improved their Surface lineup, which has increasingly gotten more praise. I don't think they really want to get into mobile phones more than they already are.

Microsoft is turning heads with new product offerings over the last couple of years. Windows 10 is excellent (most complaints focus around the forced upgrade messages and a few driver problems with the Anniversary Edition, but nothing more than any other OS upgrade brings). The Surface line is healthy. I can't tell you how many designer friends of mine, who are VERY loyal lifelong Apple users, have told me in the past week how excited they are for the Microsoft Surface Studio.

Microsoft is slowly getting back into the game of making systems themselves and finding ways to innovate. So I fully believe that while they may be trying to fill in some gaps that Apple currently fills for Mac owners, I think they have figured out the direction they need to go. They have certainly picked up the pace in the last 3 or 4 years.

Apart from the large number of people with battery problems, and the many for whom their type cover just stopped working. There are a very large number of complaints on the Microsoft Answers site, and no response from MS in most cases. Oh, but hey, we've already handed our money over...

It's coming. Paint 3D. You can download and try it:

If it's usable, for anything practical, is another question...
