I LOVE Reason. Just waiting for a ezdrummer/superior drummer equivalent, import midi to selected track, a couple under the hood microtonal enhancements (more than 12 notes per octave), better (LARGER) zoom options for the piano roll edit windows and bring back preview effects in the mixer without loading patch.

I'm agreeing with the OP. I've been a Reason owner (not that much of a user anymore) since the very beginning. When the Re was released is when I mentally jumped ship. What they did was basically kill off my devotion to the software because they eliminated the "christmas" excitement of updates. They shot themselves in the foot by removing what made a full number update, and in their case even .5 updates, wonderful. The new business model meant their hands were tied on what you'd find in a release, and their releases since then have proved my prediction was true. The devoted are going to be thrilled regardless, the objective will take issue with the minimal, yes minimal, innovation we've seen from them compared to others. That last statement is not something I'm going to argue in this thread, yet I'm confident in what I said. It's not because they're not capable, it's because their business model no longer allows for it. They can't become direct competitors of the ones in their shop, they can't innovate past what's on sale, they can only support and build an environment that is welcoming to the 3rd parties. It's too late, and there's no turning back...

:dog: If this kind of marketing somehow represents a companies "status" as far as sales are concerned, then we can kiss pretty much every major company out there goodbye. Referral programs of all types are commonplace in most sales-driven industries today. Forbes listing of top retailers every year consistently praise the use of referral programs and word of mouth marketing as a way to attract new customers. I guess those guys are on the chopping block as well.

Propellerhead has been around a long time and aren't going anywhere any time soon. Claims about "losing so many customers" happen daily here in regard to every DAW out there. They generally seem to stem from personal dissatisfaction, rather than facts or any sort of tangible proof. Reason 9 in particular has had a strong critical reaction since its release, the Rack Extension format has had some of its strongest releases ever this year, and new music is popping up everywhere by Reason users online.

This new referral program more likely shows that the guys at Propellerhead simply aren't getting comfortable with where they are business-wise. Its a competitive industry to be in right now so I say good on them for still working for it.

My only real beef with reason is that they have not listened to us poor slobs that want mo' better enhancements.

But, as far as drums, the BFD core (on top of their very good drums refill) give you mad options. Their paradigm will not give you EZD2 (best in biz imho) but the sounds are terrific. Best thing about reason, you can change all the comps/blah/etc anyway you want, the kit sounds are terrific.

Help spread the word of Reason and earn something for yourself too! It’s as easy as 1-2-3:

-Get your personal Reason URL
-Praise Reason and share the URL with your friends
-When a friend makes a purchase of Reason 9, you will be rewarded with a $25 coupon code for the Propellerhead products in our Propellerhead Shop.
So they want you to spam for them, all for the princely sum of $25 in coupon format

The most weird thing was: the CEO of the Props *declared* the VST format as being obsolete in 2012.

On the other hand they *invited* VST devs to jump aboard the RE ship. Go figure..

If they just hadn't present themself as the apex of arrogance, things probably woulda have been different atm.
I never make mistakes; I just blame others.
