You should also not forget that now with the new v1.07 The Legend also is available as a FX plugin (+ Midi Learn feature) and that as a free update.
Arturia Mimoog had a FX plugin too in the past but with the latest V3 of the plugin this seemed to be removed.
With both Monark and Diva so far no FX version seems to exist anyway.
I do not remember this for Minimonsta (that i sold several years ago) but as Oddity 2 has a FX version (i got that plugin here) i gues this is also included with Minmonsta.
BTW i will NOT compare Oddity 2 to The Legend as those are two really differnt synths like the real synths were. Both sound great on their own.

If I like the sound of a synth of course I download the demo and play it if for no other reason than to make sure it works. It was why I was so hesitant to get Falcon. But if a synth doesn't blow me away with its sound, especially if I already have emulations of what it's supposed to be, it's pointless to download a demo because I'm not going to hear something that I didn't already hear.

Sorry but i could not follow your logic. Audio demos could give you a rough idea about the sound but you could only be sure that you did not miss something if you played with the synth yourself.wagtunes wrote:If I like the sound of a synth of course I download the demo and play it if for no other reason than to make sure it works. For someone like me that owned a real Mini quite long ago and searched for a proper replacement since then first Monark and now The Legend are just great and actually now i finally do not miss the real Mini anymore...
For more complex stuff than is possible with a Mini i got other plugins and also two real analog monosyths (Novation Bass Station II and Waldorf Pulse 2).
Besides that with Ableton Live 9 Suite (with Max 4 Live) i could add LFOs, envelopes, velocity and a step sequencer to The Legend. Not to forget using the filter with other synths using the FX version.

You could just add the Legend FX as a normal FX plugin and use it as a filter but the envelopes in the Legend plugin will not work then. To use the envelopes in the FX plugin you have to route another MIDI track to the Legend FX plugin. By default the Amp envelope is set to a "Gate" mode that also works without routing MIDI to the FX plugin.ere2learn wrote:New update to v1.07, introducing Legend FX and MIDI Learn
Here is a screenshot of how to use the Legend FX with DUNE 2 and another MIDI track to use the envelopes (you could click on the link to get a bigger picture or use the "open in new tab" feature of your browser):

If you want to use the envelopes in the Legend FX you also have to adjust the envelopes and/or the envelope amounts in DUNE 2 (e.g. like in the screenshot) or any other synth you use with the FX plugin. You could also switch the filter in DUNE 2 off if you only want to use the external filter.
You could also use the oscillators in the Legend FX plugin if you like (those seem to be activated by default).

So that means no you haven't tried the demo. I can't remember if I've ever bought a synth without demoing it first. I don't rely on wonky Youtube Audio no matter what the production value. I want to know how a synth sounds and feels here in my hands. The Legend is a lot of fun to play for me so that's not something you'll discover listening to demo tracks.wagtunes wrote:Know what? Every synth, and I mean EVERY synth I've ever bought NEVER sounds as good on my system as it does when I hear it online all fancied up with great playing, just the right compression and limiting or whatever.Teksonik wrote:Have you tried the Demo yet ?wagtunes wrote:I guess my ears just aren't good enough
Ok so you don't think the sound of the demo tracks makes it worth buying. Fair enough you'll be moving on then......

Do it if you like how the real hardware Minimoog sounds.wagtunes wrote:If I like the sound of a synth of course I download the demo and play it if for no other reason than to make sure it works.
A month ago i heard a nice sound made on that new Minimoog reissue, i tried to match the sound with another plugin, took me some time, there was something missing, some undescribable "magic" was not there.
Another day i loaded The Legend, got much much much closer in just a minute or two, including the magic.
It is that sequence on MMD reissue with the bass on the MMD vintage at about 9:01 in this video:
My The Legend demo period expired and i didn't render it at that time, so you will have to believe me that i totally nailed this sound with it.
As opposed to the failed (but still nice) attempt with another Model D emulation:

I prefer the sound of the Legend.izonin wrote:So, anyone who has both: is Legend significantly better/worse than Monark?

Me too, I prefer its sound AND overall behavior to either Monark or DIVA's minimoog. And any other mini emulation. This thing feels like hardware and that is not a feeling I've had before with those or any other plugin I can remember.

It is better at emulating the Minimoog.izonin wrote:So, anyone who has both: is Legend significantly better/worse than Monark?

Exactly. Not necessarily better at any other thing. Maybe someone finds Monark sound better, and that is also fine. You just gotta try it for yourself.

No problem...izonin wrote:Thank you. Will demo, then.Robmobius wrote:I prefer the sound of the Legend.
Pretty much what Yorrrrrr said.
For me, there's just something more musical about it... Monark sounds good, but somehow flat in comparison (imo).
