Hi all,

Last year I sampled the 12 bells of an Historic English church with x5 round robin from four mic perspectives and wanted to pop in to announce it here at KVR. Alongside the traditional rope pull, there is also a second articulation - walking around the bell tower hitting the clapper on to the bell by hand, with the bells in their upright position. The result is a playable 12 church bell sample library, mapped out chromatically over the 12 tones. Please note: The bells retain their original unique tuning. Included are tuned synth patches created using the spectral information of the bells.

You can get the library for £19.95 over at :
http://www.ross-sampson.com/store/produ ... ells-vol-1 (http://www.ross-sampson.com/store/product/church-bells-vol-1)

Please check out the tuning comparison to 440hz here:

Or ask any questions here! It was fun mic-ing up a church, and I hope it offers some use to some of you out there whilst preserving a bit of history, with a % of sales going toward the maintenance of the bells at the church.

Hi, I wold like some more details if possible
what was the sample rate/bit depth
how long are the samples - are the sustains looped or were they let to ring out?
what is vol2? :)

Hi Woggle,

thanks for the questions! Here's some basic info:

24bit/48k
Requires full version of Kontakt 5.4.2 onwards
270mb download / 300mb unpacked (NI compressed from 1gb)

The bells were recorded from ring to bell silence, so they ring through with no loop. With the ambient patches there is a fade introduced to smooth the noise ratio, but you get the full ring of the bell.

Volume 2 is still in planning stages so essentially it's not decided. More concrete plans currently include re-visiting this church to capture more from within the Bell Tower as well as sample a countryside church. All church bells have their own unique history, timbre and tuning, so doing this offers up more of a comprehensive church bell package and allows for more choice!
