Error-prone? Can you be more specific?

Are you sure you're using the versions in the folder from the link at the end of each of my posts, and not the original Synthmaker Bundle link?

With high resonance and or feedback, yes SM filters don't cope well.

This falls firmly into the category of a major re-vamp. I did this one a very long time ago, and knew it needed a lot of work, so didn't include it in the original Bundle.

A spin on the Synton Syrinx, it's main attraction being a very unusual filter arrangement: two Peak filters in parallel that could be connected in series or parallel with a 4-pole LP. Each Peak has independent freq and res controls with LFO and EG mods in common. The LPF has it's own LFO and EG mod controls. The Peaks and the LPF also have separate keyboad tracking. Wow.

The Syrinx had a single two-prong 'touch-pad' in place of bend and mod wheels. So I included sensitivity/destination controls for both bend and mod wheels.

hate to be a downer (the configurations are pretty cool and, again, they look nice), but at best they just sound pretty ho-hum/generic and they're all a bit flaky, error-prone, and certainly "un-calibrated". it's possible to squeeze a few decent sounds out of them, but i'm not sure they're even worth bothering with. there's just so many other great free/cheap synths out there, which don't give me the uncomfortable "you know this thing is going to break any second now" feeling that these do.
You don't have to download them, and if you think they are not worth bothering with, then don't bother with them. Quite a negative post really. :?

I have not had any issues with errors soundwise, my speakers seem to handle the sounds pretty good IMO and so far having used (and abused) quite a large amount of them so far, I certainly don't get the feeling they are "going to break any second now" and not really sure what you mean. A repro might help the dev to fix any issue you may have.

Those who've already downloaded CyRinx, re-download it - made some tweaks to the peak filters and the scope.

i do applaud your efforts though. the designs are very interesting, and you've got to be the most prolific freeware developer that ever was.
well, the truth of the matter is these synths can sound just as good as commercial synths when sweetened with FX like they are. They dont have the snappy filters of the best commercial synths but they do well for pads and leads. So for me it comes down to the GUI and how much it inspires sound design. And yes, there are many other free synths with nice GUI's... and thats fine with me, the more choices the better. Use what drives your creativity the most.

Much fun Kevin, thanks for sharing. Ever thought of doing an emu of the Korg MS2000 ?

Yea, I wish more synths had formant-type filters.

MS2000 - No I'm only sprucing up my old stuff where it's worth doing, trying not to get sucked into anything from scratch. Plus, the MS2000 synth itself doesn't look particularly interesting and I haven't a clue how to do a Vocoder.

A synth designer? :hihi:

It's Dumb Question Time... I'm digging the form and function of these synths. But after running through a dozen or so of them, I'm unable to track any presets for them. Is that the case or have I installed them incorrectly? Thanks to Kevin Brown for making these, and making them available to us.

Post

Nope, no presets. Three reasons: I built these originally for my own use only and I do mostly textures/ambient and I like to come at these fresh each time. Second, since these are mostly emulations of vintage hardware, I wanted to force myself to 'experience' them the way folks had to back in the day. Third - um, I'm lazy.

:) 8)
Still couldn't be happier, just thought I'd ask to be sure I wasn't missing something.

This also isn't a new one or a re-vamp, but because it's story is interesting, I'm gonna post about it.

A few years ago there was a hoax perpetrated by someone going under the fake company name of 'Seekers'. They promoted the pending release of an impressively-featured synth called the SMS-2000. The thing never materialized.

Great thing about software like Synthmaker - we can make it 'real' as a vst.

here is a quick demo i made using CyRinx and Z3ta+ it is an example of sound it is capable of by doing some sound design with it and adding some light chorus and verb. It is doing the left panned leads with Z3ta+ doing the right panned arps.

there are some clicks caused by the crappy audio capture software. sorry bout that!

thanks Kev, I'm diggin the filter stuff in this one. And of course the Gorgeous GUI makes it
a joy to tweak. Theres just not enough time in the day to try to play with all the stuff you've made!
