Softube goes subscription

As long as you can buy the plugins too I don't see a problem. Only once the industry shifts so that ALL major players offer subscription only will we be in trouble. That would mean the end of owning a variety of plugins.. what if Slate, Softube, Fabfilter, Waves etc only allowed subscriptions? Each seemingly "affordable".. now think about it. You have subscriptions to 5 or 6 companies, totaling more than 100 $/€ per month. That's when we are in trouble.

Subscription yes, but you can also buy the same bundle outright.
They got a well laid out FAQ on this for anyone interested https://www.softube.com/index.php?id=volume1-q-a
In the FAQ they list the advantages of each of the purchasing models, which they list an advantage of the perpetual bundle as "Lower cost in the long run".

..the real controversy I fear maybe the use of the gobbler app to deliver plugins / updates and licenses from now onwards. I myself wouldn't have an issue with that.

You can still download all the relevant plugins from Softube and use Ilok manager if you wish. For Mac users the new gobbler app requires 10.10.5 which is kinda dumb as Softube plugins require 10.8. If you already have a Softube plugin you can get a perpetual license at a discount, in my case $149 for vol 1 which is very tempting.kenobi77 wrote:..the real controversy I fear maybe the use of the gobbler app to deliver plugins / updates and licenses from now onwards. Man, I got burnt on this one. I bought FET, Trident and Modular in the last 45 days for a total cost of >$500. My upgrade offer to the bundle is $250, effectively devaluing my $500 to <$150.
I thought a long time about those buys and I patiently waited for sales. I'm glad that I got the tools, they are really good, but I feel like Softube just took $350 from me and that stings. I would have happily bought this bundle at full price 46 days ago, but here I am.
I don't usually say things like this but this burns enough that I'm not going to buy any more of their products. They should have a more respect for their customers. They make the best stuff, but why would I pay more money to a firm that doesn't protect some value for me?

Bummer, from what I gather they calculate the discount on the most expensive one item, so somebody like you who spent a lot on smaller items isn't reflected in the discount. I have one Softube plugin and get the upgrade for $149n9 wrote:Man, I got burnt on this one. I bought FET, Trident and Modular in the last 45 days for a total cost of >$500. The upgrade calculator isn't very smart. Apparently, despite owning a reasonable number of the products in the bundle I get a massive, ahem, 20% off. Er. No.
In my case, it seems only to take the FET Compressor into account.

The discount thing appears to be broken.Gamma-UT wrote:The upgrade calculator isn't very smart. Apparently, despite owning a reasonable number of the products in the bundle I get a massive, ahem, 20% off. Er. No.

I've seen multiple people with just ONE product out of the many I have that are getting more than double the discount.

I own a few softube plugins but my discount was just 20%. I'd rather just save for the one at a time purchase.
I hope they have a nice xmas sale this year.

Yes exactly. That could end up being pricey. Unless one limits themselves to one brand, which I would imagine is part of the benefit for companies that use the subscription model.bmanic wrote:As long as you can buy the plugins too I don't see a problem. Guys just go to http://everyplugin.com/volume-1.html and buy based on what you already own. Forget the messed up Softube accounts page thing.
Way cheaper anyway.
