Gas is something terrible , the only things you can do to break this infernal spiral is to understand you don't use (so you don't need) everything you have.
So many new plugins, money to burn? How do you guys afford it?

First, I extensively used the stock plugins from my DAW (at the time, Cubase 4).
Then I saved my money and bought better effects plugins, which I in turn sold to get better stuff. I used the KVR market place a lot and have also bought stuff directly from devs.
On occasion, I've also sold soft synths because I wasn't using them enough to justify keeping them.
The idea is to settle for a limited number of great plugins and learn them inside out. And you'll then realise you don't really need to buy the shiny new stuff.

I'm sure 99% of the stuff sale on this forum are 99 % because of GAS.

Well, I don't. I didn't use all possibilities of plugins I already have. Can't really buy anything new until I use what I already own. So now I sit down and make music
That being said, I got AIR Instrument Pack with Akai Advance bundle and then got LuSH-101 for free. Didn't make any patch with the latter one as well.

Be selective.
To many plugins, means not much work. Too much time talking about plugins, means not much work.
I no longer consider $200 expensive for a plugin, but since there's a good number of plugins (instruments, effects and even sample libraries) all hovering around that same price point, I am very selective in choosing what I need.
And know your sales! Lots of patterns for sales (Winter, Summer, Holidays, etc...).

Instead of watching trailers for new products, watch trailers for products you already own. This is an incredible cure for gas. And take your holidays on a desert island on june and between end of november and early january.

It's all about the deals. Buying second hand, or just watching the sales forum. I mean, I picked up Noveltech Character today for $9 (normally $150), picked up Waves Maserati VX1 for $9 the other day using a coupon they gave out a few weeks ago. Take advantage of crossgrades, use sites like JRR Shop, Audiodeluxe, Plugin Discounts, Every Plugin, etc. who give additional savings in cart.
Between all that, I've picked up some amazing deals lately. Many companies have regular specials, like Waves and MeldaProduction. You can get huge deals if you just keep an eye out. And Black Friday is coming soon. Best time of the year to stock up.

I actually do this when I can't afford the great new tool I want! I have found that watching tutorials on products you already have will frequently inspire you. Learn how to use current tools in different ways or use features you didn't know were there, and it can keep you occupied for a while.budweiser wrote:Instead of watching trailers for new products, watch trailers for products you already own.
