Looks like its everything V-Stack hoped to be. Anyone used it yet? Can anyone tell me what kind of Copy Protection SpinAudio uses (I don't buy CR)? Any comments/impressions are welcome. Thanks

Bit confused really - is this hype? It says "The product is designed to deliver real-time performance with a total Input/Output latency down to 2 ms that equals dedicated hardware solutions" but all I've read on the site seems to indicate that it's not doing anything more than offering ASIO 2 - same as any other host including EnergY XT, Chainer and Minihost. So unless it has some additional tricks to speed things up the actual latency will, as usual, depend on your soundcard/cpu.

Same goes for "support for DSP cards" - again this is just what any decent VST host can do - ie support VST plugins that run off DSP cards such as Creamware in XTC mode and Powercore. Of course if you had a Creamware card you'd also have a much more powerful, DSP powered, built in mixer at your disposal anyway and wouldn't need this.

I tried the old Asio FX Processor demo ages ago and it was very crashy. I can't see this offering anything more than any decent VST capable host (most of which have built in mixers or something similar and can route VST and Audio etc). If I want a light live type host I'd use Ext (which can do all this and more flexibly) or Minihost.

As for replacing V Stack - it lacks the one thing that VStack had to it's advantage - System Link.

I like SpinAudio's effects very much but can't see the use of this.

yep, sorry spinaudio but this looks hopelessly overpriced and outclassed by energy xt.

Really? Which one can sync to MIDI clock? Not EnergyXT... Not V-Stack... A requirement for my setup and why I'm interested in any case.

V-Stack and System Link? Funny on the Steinberg forums I see time and time again users begging for MIDI sync but not much mention of System Link (esp. the rest of the world that doesn't use Cubase)

Nethertheless System link is still just about the only thing it has over the other "light host" type apps mentioned.

yes it depends on your soundcard/cpu, but mainly it depends on the audio processing engine design. VMC is designed to operate on multi-cpu systems. it supports running on up to 8-cpu systems

by desing the VMC engine is comparable to Nuendo 2.x, if not better. We've spent 3 years designing this engine.

In VMC you can run powercore plug-ins in no-latency mode almost without cpu loading...(provided that the dsp plug-ins are loaded into different dsps of course)...this is how they are supported.

it used to be crashy when it was first released, and well VMC is a different thing...

Again, this isn't a SEQUENCER but a standalone VST Rack/mixer environment (unlike cubase, logic, err...) And in cany case logic errr... is MAC only now.

Samplitude I looked at but I believe it only does VSTs not VSTis right? Maybe I'm wrong here but from what I read in the lit it only uses VST effects on its internal sampling engine.

Saw Studio is the closest you pointed out but is assininely expensive (The $150 for VMC is about as high as I'd go for the functionality)

Bidule is the closest I think but it lacks the mixer paradigm which I like, and seems to be stuck in eternal beta - but it does MIDI sync!

any more suggestions err...?

Now that VMC is on sale, it's time to look at this again.
Really want external MIDI tempo sync in a small performance-oriented host.

I Love the fact that opening VMC and loading VSTs doesn't make my other running audio app click and pop like other hosts do.

How do you get VMC to see incoming MIDI?

Forte Ensemble syncs to MIDI clock. I don't remember in which version it was added. Version 1.4b is pretty stable for me. It just uses a serial number. I have one spinaudio product. It just uses a serial number also.

anyone using VMC on a dedicated machine? Hows it holding up with kontakt use under heavy cpu and ram strain?
Also, anyone know for how many computers the license is good, if its a buy once, use as you like or buy once per computer type license?

Yeah I'm looking at Forte as well, but at $130...
I'm kinda thinking that the SpinEQ's that you get for free with VMC add quite a bit of value as well.

I guess you'd see some option for it in the place where you choose which soundcard output to use for an output bus, eh?
