But, to each his own. Shame, because you're missing out on a lot of great stuff.
I'm missing out on exactly nothing because, you see, I purposely avoid softwares that are hardware protected, and I've never felt the need for that.
And it's really not my fault if you can't understand the needs of other people. People using laptops probably outnumber people using fixed computers.

And the cataclysmic event you're talking about will never happen, else it would have already happened. And you know why ? Because most large companies (think Microsoft, Adobe, for instance) quickly found out that the hassle of dealing with customers who are having issues with dongles simply wasn't worth it. Still, companies that choose to go that route have to deal with it on a daily basis, and it uses up a lot of their resources so the revenue is kind of offset by this cost. Combine that with the loss of revenue due to people who will never try the software because of this kind of protection, the customers who walk away because of bad experience (and then talk about it on forums), and the loss of revenue of people for whom it's not even an option because they went mobile, and suddenly, this kind of protection becomes far less attractive.

I'm sure the Vengeance team have thought about all of this to take their decision.

The product, while being of high quality, isn't exactly groundbreaking. Maybe that's the reasoning behind the decision to ditch the dongle. You know, since more or less similar non-dongled alternatives from other companies already exist.

Ever heard of Occam's razor?

It's an ancient medieval idea that says whenever there's a choice of two apparently equally good options, then always pick the simplest.

So - never a dongle for me.

And I remember when Cubase and others used to have dongles and there was always this "apparatus" with loads of awkward annoying dongles sticking out of one side of my computer, always felt wobbly, always ready to catch on something, and stress the socket joint. Phhrrr.

One could argue the 'simplest' option is just to use a dongle and house all your licenses in one place. no muss, no fuss. :hihi:

Sorry but I didn't read all 56 pages of comments here, but was wondering what copy protection will this use? The only thing I have to use a dongle with is the PPG 3.V synth.

Also, is there a final price that has been decided on?

Final price, from what I understand, is 199 euro.

Copy protection, they decided to not go the dongle route. So will probably be soft elicenser or something like that. It will not be a simple serial number like U-he stuff.

Thanks for the info. That's a bit high, more than Zebra, but less than Falcon. I really like how it looks and sounds in the videos though. I wonder if there will be any sort of early-bird special pricing. (?)

In case of soft eLicenser it is also possible to the the USB eLicenser dongle which personally i do prefer.

Right, but the dongle will not be required, which will make a lot of people happy. I actually prefer the dongle myself but that's because I never go anywhere with my PC.

if soft e-licenser we can use dongle if we want right? I MUCH prefer dongle over soft.

Yes we can, but I also prefer the dongle in case of e-licenser. But something like Ableton's protection is even better :) The soft e-licenser is horrible by being limited to one computer :nutter:
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Is it really just one license for a single computer?? Man, that truly sucks.

I feel the same way about prefering dongles. Difference is I move around with my laptop alot, and my dongles are totally a non issue. I have USB hubs that take care of all my peripherals and I just unplug them and put them in compartments in my Orion M17x laptop backpack for safe keeping. No big deal to go mobile with dongles at all.

The soft e-licenser yes, just one and you can't change it! You can't move the license unless you have a dongle! So, IMO, if the protection is going to be Steinberg's method, then buy a dongle and call it a day!

With the dongle you can install it in all your computers (I have all the e-licenser software from Cubase Artist to largo to Retrologue 2 to Avenger beta installed in 2 computers and just move the USB dongle when I want to use the other. The new dongle is small not like the old long one!

Anyway, we don't know yet what the final decision will be except that the final release of Avenger won't require a dongle to run, so it means it can run without a dongle, but still not sure what it is specifically, soft e-licence? iLok? a key? Or Challenge and Response?
