Someone should really make an in-depth comparison between Synth1 and Nord Lead one day. From what i can tell, only knowing the Nord Lead from sound demos, and videos, i would say that Synth1's filters sound nothing like a Nord Lead's. Dunno about Discovery Pro. My personal opinion is that Synth1 is completely overhyped, i mean, it's a nice synth for free, and definitely has its moments, but, it can't really bear comparison with most popular payware synths.wagtunes wrote:Okay, just looked it up. Both Discovery Pro and Synth1 "supposedly" emulate a Nord Lead.
No way in hell do you get the same sounds out of Synth1 that you get out of Discovery Pro. It's not even a contest.
Can every sound from Dune be heard in Dune 2

can we hear an example of this magical, sacred sound? who knows, you might even be able to make it with the free Synth1 with a little sound design skill.

you just suck at sound design, dude. most "popular" payware synths use effects and cleverchk071 wrote:[My personal opinion is that Synth1 is completely overhyped, i mean, it's a nice synth for free, and definitely has its moments, but, it can't really bear comparison with most popular payware synths.
sound design to sucker sound design challenged people like you into buying them.
but hey, whatever... a fool and his money are soon to be parted.

LOL, I don't know about the virus, but what I do know is sylenth1 doesn't hold a candle to something like Spire, let alone Avenger.Examigan wrote:Some people say Sylenth1 is like the Virus
edit: the Virus still has the edge over Spire in terms of sound, but not by far, with a few plugins, I can make Spire sound fatter than a naked Virus Ti. Now if I apply the same treatments to the Virus, I can imagine it takes the cake.

Nope its you Steven.... little less coffee will do... it tends to make one feel infuriated! !!wagtunes wrote:Grrrrrr!!! Except everything is different. It has different oscillators. Of course it doesn't work the other way round as v2 simply offers more.
Again, you didn't answer my question. Do you own both? Hell, do you even own ONE of them?
Is it just me or is this guy infuriating as hell?
That been said.. I see the two Synths exactly as that.. two seperate synths with differant character... I own both, use both and love both..... its like having two sons. They are both special.. one might be older and more lean the other younger and well built but at the end of the day you still love both!!

I own Discovery Pro and personally I cant find a place for it in my productions.. Dune1 fills that space... I also prefer the sound of Synth1 over Discovery Pro... Synth1 has a warmer creamier sound than Discovery and I find Discovery's sound to be plastic and thin to my ears.... for thin cutting psytrance sound I have seen Discovery to work well... but that is not the music I want to produce... I have a friend that does AMAZING productions with Synth1. ...Discovery Pro does not do it for me... but I cant sell it either as no one is intrested in it.wagtunes wrote:Okay, just looked it up. Nobody cares about it and never did. Once again, people use Synth1 for what it is, not because how well does it emulates Nord Lead. From what i can tell, only knowing the Nord Lead from sound demos, and videos, i would say that Synth1's filters sound nothing like a Nord Lead's.

Synth1 is from 2002, practically 15 years old, name me top 10 commercial synths from 2002 without googling.
We'll see how many nowadays popular commercial synths will stand a chance vs synths produced in 2025-2030.

It would be pretty obvious to most people that an 'architectural' similarity means absolutely nothing if the components of that architecture behave differently.fluffy_little_something wrote:No. Dune 1 and 2 are technically incompatible, but in terms of architecture etc. they are similar.

Ah, Synth 1. The saving grace for those with underpowered pcs and ideas above their purchase power.
What I'd have done without it all those poverty stricken years ago I don't know.
The only x86 plugin I'd have kept on my system if it hadn't have gone 64bit.

It is just a basic octave strings. No modulation or FX involved. Therefore I am happy to hear there is a free version of Dune which I'll definitely give a try. As a super-saw is involved older versions of Synth1 can not do it, but newer version do have a serious unison future so I'll try it out. You might say "a basic oct strings, why the fuss?", well with sounds it is all so very sensitive, so it must exactly sounds how I want it and not 95% close.layzer wrote:can we hear an example of this magical, sacred sound? who knows, you might even be able to make it with the free Synth1 with a little sound design skill.

It's just that some people always claimed that it was "closest to a Nord", so, you can't blame me for calling bullshit, when there is bullshit.brainzistor wrote:People use(d) and love(d) Synth1 for what it is, nobody EVER gave a shit does it emulates 100% Nord Lead or not.Someone should really make an in-depth comparison between Synth1 and Nord Lead one day.

Thanks for the uncalled hostility. I still say that Synth1 is overyhped, and that even 2007 synths sound better. Jeez, even good old Z3TA 1 sounds better.brainzistor wrote:It takes genius to create something, any idiot can criticize. My personal opinion is that Synth1 is completely overhyped, i mean, it's a nice synth for free, and definitely has its moments, but, it can't really bear comparison with most popular payware synths.

Send it to KVR bedroom producer no.1, Mr. Layzer. I'm sure he can do it with OnePingOnly, making clever use of freeware fx. Don't make me post a link to my soundcloud on here to prove that you are correct about "MY SH**" eh, never mind people can just click my user name to hear the clever use of freeware fx and synths in music i'v posted in the music forum... btw, I don't see you posting anything made with your thousands of dollars worth of commercial VSTs. i wonder why.chk071 wrote: Send it to KVR bedroom producer no.1, Mr. Layzer. I think Synth one is a good synth. But there's plenty of better ones out there in my opinion.
You seem to get very defensive over that synth for some reason.
I will take the Lord's name in vain, whenever I want. Hail Satan! And his little goblins too.
