you are nearing the end of a song you are working on in FLStudio and on reloading the song the flp file is corrupt. Is there anything I can do to recover it. Or should I just sit here and try to calm down while I scream FAAAARRRRKKK inside.

This is a first for me. If there are any corrupt fls file veterans out there how do you stop this from happening, what is the cause and what can I do to control the rage building up inside :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :help:

You know...I have had this happen with other music files (wont say the name of my lame ass programs I use due to the possability that someone believes that I may actually be a musician  ). I find that every time I make a change I save the file under a different name...use numbers at the end...whatever. That way if something bad happens I am only a step back instead of a leap. Oh and save a few copies too...just to make sure. When I get to the final mix I burn two copies on different cds just in case...Im anal like that though.

Post

Wise advice indeed. I only wish I could lose my compulsive need to have an orderly computer. The hatred of duplicate files everywhere is what stops me doing what you mentioned. Still I could at least always have the previous file on standby.

I do always burn two copies though.

I am startiong to calm down and realise I have to start again. Hopefully I will remember what I have done. Yeah right

Are corrupt files common with FL?? Thats one of the reasons I switched form Cubase to Tracktion. Luckily I havent had that problem in Tracktion yet. Its the type of thing that makes you want to choke somebody and beat them down with baseball bats.

I'd like to help but I don't remember ever having a corrupt file in FL Studio. The only thing I can think of is a sample used was moved or maybe a vst that was used was updated to a new version.Using any Synth Edit instruments? Other than that can't really think what might cause a corrupt file sorry for your loss. :(

Post

What exactly happens on reloading?
Often times, a particular vst is offending, and though the file will not play, if you remove the vst (check SE stuff) and save a new version, often it will work without losing the MIDI and automation data.

Sometimes this happens when I load huge files into DS-404.

Actually, the newest FL Studio has yet to do this to me.

Ah, well, often it doesn't work anyways. Just remember that you are the star, the creative genius, and not the piece! Hope that helps (I know it doesn't reaaaally... )
..what goes around comes around..

Hi,
Try looking in the FLS Trash Bin folder. Each time you load a song, a backup .flp is stored there in case of emergencies like this. It won't have any changes you've made but at least the previous version will still be there so you can try again.
RIP Black Tom and Beckett. They weren't just cats, they were MY cats, the best cats ever.

Oh, no.

I am afeared that won't work. I know this corrupt file of which is spoken.
Sadly, it will not load at all, right? No data. Can't even rescue a few midi notes from it. Just corrupt. can't load.

I feel for you, man.

I haven't heard of it for a while though, and everything smooth wiht FLstudio.4 (thankfully... well so far.)
resistors are futile you will be simulated

I do that too, untill a few songs later I just completely forgotten the working title :x

Try finding it then between the hundreds of files

erm - yourself ?

recently i started exporting midifiles from the keyroll before i save projects
had something similar once which had to do with a defunctioning disk (turned out later)
but erm - theres an autosave function in fl you know
and theres always a back up of the track you are working on in the background.

when things get lost in the electronic production corner i always blame myself for not being able to do good music without electronics

the problem starts when you've got something really good and you think "good, I can throw away some of the other versions now because they're not as good.."

..and a day later you change your mind about the brilliant piece you made the day before
