Ah.. but I'm safe then because I already have an e-license, right? I have the old crappy long one (for Wavelab). So even if they go software e-licenser, I can use the dongle to be mobile?EnGee wrote:The soft e-licenser yes, just one and you can't change it! You can't move the license unless you have a dongle! So, IMO, if the protection is going to be Steinberg's method, then buy a dongle and call it a day!bmanic wrote:Is it really just one license for a single computer?? Man, that truly sucks.
With the dongle you can install it in all your computers (I have all the e-licenser software from Cubase Artist to largo to Retrologue 2 to Avenger beta installed in 2 computers and just move the USB dongle when I want to use the other. The new dongle is small not like the old long one!
Anyway, we don't know yet what the final decision will be except that the final release of Avenger won't require a dongle to run, so it means it can run without a dongle, but still not sure what it is specifically, soft e-licence? iLok? a key? Or Challenge and Response?

There is also a concept in engineering called the single point of failure: never have a point in a system on which the operation of the whole system depends in such a way that if it fails, everything fails.VitaminD wrote:One could argue the 'simplest' option is just to use a dongle and house all your licenses in one place. no muss, no fuss.kevvvvv wrote:Ever heard of Occam's razor?
It's an ancient medieval idea that says whenever there's a choice of two apparently equally good options, then always pick the simplest.
So - never a dongle for me.
And I remember when Cubase and others used to have dongles and there was always this "apparatus" with loads of awkward annoying dongles sticking out of one side of my computer, always felt wobbly, always ready to catch on something, and stress the socket joint. Phhrrr.

Although I'm not in need for another synth right now (I already have plenty to play with, with Dune 2, Diva and SynthMaster, plus a number of free synths), if I were, I would take this over Falcon any day. It could also easily replace Dune 2 + SynthMaster in my opinion, unless you are short on CPU powerExamigan wrote: Thanks for the info. That's a bit high, more than Zebra, but less than Falcon. I really like how it looks and sounds in the videos though. I wonder if there will be any sort of early-bird special pricing. (?)

What are your complimentary free synths of choice? I think if one can buy this Mega Synth you wont need any other synth ever.lolilol1975 wrote:Although I'm not in need for another synth right now (I already have plenty to play with, with Dune 2, Diva and SynthMaster, plus a number of free synths), if I were, I would take this over Falcon any day. (We had this conversation 30 pages ago - some companies allow more than one license using the soft elicenser. Until refx actually announce something concrete, or unless we are told otherwise here, it's all guesswork at the moment - all we know for sure is that a dongle isn't mandatory, nothing else).

- Madrona Labs AaltoCM (amazing semi modular synth, very analog sounding),
- u-he TyrellN6 (very nice synth, but honestly entirely redundant with the rest),
- charalatan (best learning synth because it's so simple and light, yet good sounding, very handy as a quick and dirty oscillators source. Layer instances, add whatever effects from your DAW, and you're set),
- Kairatune (synth specialized for drones, interesting sound, cool looking interface),
- Sonigen Modular (the most versatile free synth, and one of the best sounding as well).
Plus a couple others that I will probably ditch because I'll probably never use them given that's already 9 synths in total, enough to keep me busy for the rest of my life.

I really appreciate this new synth - looks very powerful and maybe like a replacement for Radias... But what the hell is this new rendering? Why always this tunnel trance force look?
That look will not reflect all possibilities of this synth, IMHO.

I only have two Vengeance licenses on a eLicenser dongle. Is there a method to store licenses locally as iLok is offering (Dongle/Computer/Both)? I keep reading about "soft eLicenser" but I never encountered a eLicenser-protected product that doesn't need the dongle. Someone care to shed a light? Because as far as I know, dongle or "soft", eLicenser protection was never hacked (apart from the 10+ years ago).BennyLucassi wrote:that a dongle isn't mandatory as of now, but in the future wouldn't be surprised if they changed itnoiseboyuk wrote:(We had this conversation 30 pages ago - some companies allow more than one license using the soft elicenser. Well, as I spotted the thread some time ago, I thought: Vengeance = Dongle = thanks, not for me.
Though I use e.g. Ilok products I just try to avoid that stuff as much as possible. I don't own a dongle, I have to use my notebook as big dongle substitute, and I don't know what happens if my notebook suddenly dies or if i reformat the whole stuff without thinking (which I've done in the past).
But the price tag on that thing is really tempting, and Manuel is one of the best sound designer when it comes to commercial, up-to-date-sounds, no doubt about that.
But one thing I really cannot understand: why do I have to pay for the dongle? Why isn't it part of the deal?
It's like I'm buying a car and the salesman goes: to able to drive it you need to buy a steering wheel which is a 100 bucks extra. Cannot imagine such a scenario in real life...
So I'm ok with soft licence, but I'm definitively not ok buying a usb dongle which I only would need for this product.

But it's the principle that's the same - paying for extra stuff which one normally doesn't need in order to use the stuff one is buying. That's plain stupid imo.nordickvr wrote:Well, VI's and cars are quite different things...2ZrgE wrote:...It's like I'm buying a car and the salesman goes: to able to drive it you need to buy a steering wheel which is a 100 bucks extra. Talking about developers needing a way to protect them works, don't see it as stupid.2ZrgE wrote:But it's the principle that's the same - paying for extra stuff which one normally doesn't need in order to use the stuff one is buying. That said, one could of course decide to don't support a developer with a given copy protection scheme.
But well, don't want to derail the thread anymore, this was already over talked about.
