Anyone been wanting to start over with your music?

My style has actually shifted quite radically when it comes to my metal music. When I started out, it was alternative-ish metal/hard rock, whereas it's taken an icreasingly progressive direction with every album I've made. But I wouldn't "start over". As much as I dislike my earlier music, I'm still as proud of it as I am of my newer stuff.
My solo projects:
Hekkräiser (experimental) | MFG38 (electronic/soundtrack) | The Santtu Pesonen Project (metal/prog)

I experienced calamity which over time had caused me to deteriorate compositionally, and aggravated an old injury which made guitaring a real challenge. So (w. rare exceptions) I do things radically different on the instrument and very nearly had to start over in terms of... well, I lacked prowess in executing ideas, and was even a bit retarded as to forming them.
SO - or BUT - my first efforts with the new tech were much more simple and elemental than what my younger self will have been interested in. I didn't put any guitar on a DAW track for... until around 3 yrs later. I began making weird shit again before too long, but my melodic sense was drastically reformed (not re-shaped, reformed, cf rehabilitated) as a result of all the changes. Probably for the best.
So, have something catastrophic happen to you!
All seriousness aside, Pat Martino had some kind of injury causing amnesia and had to start guitar over from scratch. I like his second persona on the instrument better.

Instead of writing the lyrics as well as making the melodies and music for my songs, I am trying to take existing lyrics by other people and make music for that/them.
I tried it only once a long time ago. The lyrics was made first but it was my own lyrics not other people's lyrics then I made the music later but I only have one song done that way and it was a failure so I gave up on that method but now I am thinking "Dude, you've always had more trouble writing lyrics than making music and so why not try that old method again but slightly differently (write music to other people's existing lyrics instead of your own lyrics) this time but really really try.
I figure if I get good at making the music to other people's lyrics then later on I could make my own lyrics first then the music later. In the past I've always made the music first then the lyrics later. So, it kind of qualifies as starting over but more like restarting over since I did it before. With my own lyrics. Once. But this time, with other people's lyrics.
So I guess I am going to spend more time, at least the rest of this November maybe, and see if it works and if does work then put the "be a scrabble tournament player" aspiration on hold and focus mostly on songwriting and less time on other time-consuming distractions.
