While the price of 100 bucks for the basic version seems affordable, I wonder how many people actually buy that when it doesn't even allow you to record audio tracks, which is standard on many cheaper DAW's such as Mulab or Mixcraft. So, most people will probably have to pick a more expensive edition for 200 or 300 bucks. Sure, IL have those life-time updates, but then again, I prefer paying a tiny update fee every other year instead of paying a higher price at once, especially since one still can't sell FL Studio.

Actually, I dislike any DAW's which come in different editions, I always get the feeling that I get an inferior and incomplete product unless I buy the best edition.

Just saying, still not convinced of that business model...
About 'business models'

Every major developer provides a range of increasing priced variants. Check.

Every major developer sells add-ons (plugins/features). Check.

Only we provide free updates for life. You only ever need to pay for FL Studio once.

FL Studio Producer Edition, which unlocks all core program features, is just $199. That is not a lot of money for what you are getting and we constantly add new free plugins to the mix. The price has remained unchanged for a decade.

What about the winners in the charity? Will they receive their copies? ;)
AFAIK we have not been contacted by the organizers to tell us who has won.

That work is supposed to be starting about now. It had to wait for the 12.4 update.

It is always a little alarming to see how empty the glass is (for some people) here at KVR. OTOH when the well respected CDM (Create Digital Music) had a look at 12.4 they saw it was quite full:

FL Studio keeps rocking – now with mobile integration

Its particularly bemusing to see people here claiming that lifetime free updates is somehow a bad thing (perhaps they are working for or with competitors, who knows). We have delivered on this promise for 19 years now and our business is stronger than ever. Our strength is largely because of this policy, combined with giving more and more value to that core promise with each release.

Don't let our opinions spill out like a full glass, full of... :)

It's what we call a "False Positive".

In 24 hours, update Avira and use the same installer and the alert will be gone.

We can't control what 3rd party virus programs do when they see our code.

These FL Studio threads look like a bullying contest. It's not that I pitty Scott, cause it's his job to do what he does, but it's really difficult to understand the attitude.
There is critique for all music software on KVR but FL gets an "special treat" for no obvious reason imo.

This place is toxic. That's why i rarely post here anymore, besides selling and buying at the marketplace.

Some devs will always be bullied no matter what they do, while others are hailed as gods.

I tested all FL exe files on virustotal.com. They were analysed by 55 anti-virus engines and there were two positives for "FL (compatible memory).exe".

I've reported it as a false positive to Avira now, so it should be ok soon.

I really like FL studio these days, but that isn't quite right.

But I'm relatively happy with FL these days. Seems they are listening and trying to please the collective. I give credit for that, too many just ignore everything anyone says in the host field.

Also, thanks to Scott for more and more impressive vids. It's gonna take a geezer like me a lifetime (well, at least I have the updates  ) to catch up but they help a lot.

I always liked that synth, but it had quite some aliasing :P I assume they no longer update legacy synth sound engines, right?
I don't think they have. It seems that many of the IL synths are orphaned because they do not have a developer and source code anymore.
Those plugins will have updated GUIs before FL 13.

Image-Line wrote:The only 'orphaned' synths are Fruity Soundfont Player (lost code) and TS404 (technical issues in 12).
And Wasp / Wasp XT.
