Is it safe to buy Cubase 8.5 Pro now in terms of grace period update to 9?

Oh sorry, didn't notice that. So I guess the upgrade price will likely be the same for you.

I would say that you will be fine within the grace period, but there is no way to be 100% sure until they actually announce it. You can definitely try and not register/activate the upgrade in My Steinberg, or if you accidentally do, delete the elicensor from My Steinberg, perform maintenance, then re-register it later. If you have a second elicensor, transfer the licenses there before performing the maintenance. That should reset the activation date in My Steinberg when you decide to re-register.

Sorry, not trying to be confusing, lol. Just think of it this way, the most you will likely be out is an extra $50 or whatever the upgrade fee is. Not the ideal situation, but still. If you NEED to upgrade, that may be a small risk worth taking.

The KVR Sell&Buy forum. They have been going for between $250 and $300. If you are a student, you can get an educational license, but not sure if it will qualify for grace period or not.

Just do a search in the KVR forum mentioned and see if anyone has them available.

If you want them new, I would suggest going through JRR Shop or something and getting a little discount in your cart automatically. But if you can get it second hand, even if you have to pay for the upgrade, it would still be cheaper than buying new.

Since I use the € symbol, I think it clearly shows where I am But I believe that "£40/90-ish" is when you go from X.0 to x.5 and then from x.5 to the next x.0. If you jump directly from one major version to another (without having passes through the x.5), it usually means summing both prices.

For example, upgrading from 7.5 to 8 was € 99, while upgrading from 8 to 8.5 was (is) € 49

But it seems this upgrade will be cheaper (maybe because it hasn't so many new things as usual). I read some rumours about it.

I know it sounds silly, but I know that I've done that when moving licenses between elicensors and reorganizing, and it shows the Cubase activation date as the day I re-registered it (though it may actually be considered the day I moved it TO the new elicensor, so if you have a spare elicensor, might want to try that).

The reason it automatically did that is because the elicensor was already registered with My Steinberg, and it just replaced your license. In order for the activation date to be delayed, you have to wait to register the elicensor. The trick I just mentioned above may be worth trying.

Though you should be ok still with the grace period, I would think.
