i used to write short stories and poems in Dutch as a kid - just for fun / self-pity / therapy / undermining fear of failure / beauty - or whatever other reasons a little kid can come up with to write. Once in a while i threw all the stories and poems away
thinking if they were really good the basics of the good ones would stick in my head
some sort of real life filter - later on i regret what i did and learned all self chastising is an utterance of lunacy
but i do think some failure could help in getting the best out in you

Last year i had some corrupted files. In fact i had a corrupted homemade template and the tunes out of it were corrupted as well !
At that time i had moved the panels out of the "grey handling lines(?)" and such things.

Now the good thing: it all came back to normal after i tried a "reset settings" (start/programs/FLstudio/reset settings).

Here it wasn't the files that were corrupted, but they were saved with a graphic change (may be panels moved or audio clip screen size increased or the browser made larger or...) that FL didn't liked at all on reload.

Since i always make something i had read once in looptalk, is saving with playlist on screen (not an hassle since i call it from one of the mouse buttons) and it "may" prevent anymore such things.

May it work for you !

A few good suggestions there. The best is probably to kill myself but I am not that way inclined. I looked in the trash folder (thanks IanB for that tip. I'll remember in future). Thanks for the tip but after several hours of re construction all that was in there was the new version. I haven't moved any samples or vsts but I was removing and adding various vsts within the song as an experiment before the thing f**ked up so maybe that was it. The last thing I added was SampletankFREE after searching for a bass sound but now it loads and saves fine with that so go figure.

This is the first time this has happened to me with any song file but I guess it could have come at a worse time. As far as I know and in my experience this is not common with FLStudio.

You live in Brisbane? Actually I don't think she has acne. I imprinted a new word in my head today. Backup backup backup. Geez I feel scatterbrained right now. Does it show?

I think someone asked about the message. It said the file is corrup but apart from that I don't remember. I have a feeling there was something in there about a vst causing a problem.

Anyway. I am over it. My girlfriend says the new version sounds good and no one died in the making of this song.

sadly you can't fix this. But, a good way of backing up is to go to file>save new version every so often. This will automatically number the FLP versions so if something like this does happen, you at least have something to revert to.

I've had this happen to me only once, which is a great record considering I've been using FL for ages. No software is completely flawless.

Thanks. I have been doing thast since the "incident". Same here though it has only happened once so a pretty good record I guess.

Are you opening it from within FL Studio or are you just double-clicking it to open. I've had some that appear corrupt if I double click them, but that open fine from within...

I did try both methods and although the error message was different the end result was the same.

1) Look in C:\Program Files\FLStudio4\Trash bin\Backup.flp

Open that. FL saves the one but last version in there....but you need to do this before you open and save anything else...which I assume you have already done.

2) Learn to use SAVE NEW VERSION
