I think Gobbler is becoming the subscription method for many software vendors going with the subscription option. Slate started with it, but a number of vendors have jumped on it now as well. (Presonus and now Softube, who started a subscription model in addition to regular licenses)phoenixnick wrote:For some reason I cannot get the Rolling Stone's song "You Can't Always Get What You Want" out of my head.....but sometimes you can't always get what you want. I liked Softube's Modular and the chance of more modules in the future. But I didn't like having to have a "Gobbler" account, don't mind a "Softube" one, that's understandable. I decided to uninstall Modular, which was a great softsynth and cancel the Gobbler Account, this also cancels the Softube one as well.
Not quite sure why the Gobbler App/Account was needed, was there really a serious problem downloading/installing/activating their software? The previous way seemed no harder than everyone else's.
Disappointing though![]()

Softube report that Gobbler also uses ilok, so there is integration there. The goal was apparently to manage module licenses so that you don't have to download a 1.2gb installer all over again just to get a new module. And sure, they could have rolled their own, but I can't fault them for using an existing subscription management system. I'm very happy about the new Roli integration module, so I'll cut them a whole lot of slack for a while!

Had to laugh
Not a bad deal, buy one Softube account, get 2 free (Gobbler and iLok). I personlly do not like Accounts being automatically set up for you.....
I can fully understand using Gobbler to handle subscription services, but personally I would never use such a service, nor would I use their App. I agree 1.2 GB downloads can be a pain in the butt, but this seems to been negated by Softube by offering individual plugin downloads. The only problem is you have to have the combined Softube/Gobbler account to get to them. They can be found in the "My Downloads" section on the Softube website in your account. Just a Softube alone account would have been nice to get them or future updates.....
I know companies often use outside sources for purchases, etc. Vendors often use PayPal but do not expect you to have a PayPal account in the process.....
Gobbler.....What exactly are you getting? just a App? But do you also get their other services such as Cloud, Workspaces, Collaboration services, etc with their account?
Personally I think we are all lucky today (thanks U-He
), I remember tape recorders, Atari ST's etc....There is so many options out there, so any hassle just isn't worth it, move on, get software elsewhere...and do some recording......

I don't understand this, so if I want to buy any Softube product now I need to install Gobbler and setup an account or just if I want the subscription? I only have 2 of their plugins (and hardly use them tbh) but they were already installed and on my iLok so didn't need Gobbler but does that mean I will if I need to update them? I would have been interested in Modular when it gets proper preset management.

You just create a Gobbler account, no need to install the app as individual installers for each product are available from Softube

Downloading individual plugin installers...Not too easy to find though and you can only get to them if you have a combined Softube/Gobbler Account. I would have liked the option of a Softube only account if the user saw no use for Gobbler services. The Download page on ther Softube site is somewhat pushing the use only of the Gobbler App, we could not find any reference to the individual plugin downloads. Wouldn't it be good customer service to show this option more prominently, we only discovered it by scrolling to the bottom of a page
Gobbler App.....A couple of things we discovered using it once.....after uninstalling, some stuff was left behind on the computer and a "service" could still be detected operating. We had to manually remove all of this. Also, if you decide to UNLINK your iLok Account check on your user section on iLok'a website, although we unlinked our iLok details at Gobbler, the iLok account was showing that we were still giving permission for Gobbler to haver access. Please revoke this at iLok to protect yourself....

I've tested Softube Modular vs Reaktor 6 and can only recommend Reaktor to everyone (even if I dislike many other NI instruments).
Softube Modular sounds good, but Gobbler/iLok REALLY SUCKS - especially if you're not connected to the internet, try to start your DAW and get a message 20 times that iLok could't connect to the web - that also happens with my registered Soundtoys plugs
Reaktor on the other hand sounds fantastic, even compared to a real hardware modular system and the user library is really great!
After several crashes and ongoing hazzle with plugins that I've bought I recommend:
AVOID iLOK at all cost!!!

How do the filters sound? The real Korgasmatron can sound pretty insane, unlike what audio plugin / digital filters have achieved thus far. I'd be surprised if it sounded anything like the real thing.

Not a single problem here once in my whole iLok time at all (using it since the first iLok came out).magge73 wrote:I've tested Softube Modular vs Reaktor 6 and can only recommend Reaktor to everyone (even if I dislike many other NI instruments).

Softube Modular runs like a charme on my system, not a single problem either.
However it's a CPU hog, so I have to admit I have to bounce a lot - but will do because the sound quality is prime!

OK even worse, is there now no way to just install using iLok (which I have already) and do without this Gobbler thing which looks like it could use additional cpu now too? Otherwise I will continue to avoid Modular (which there's no point in getting anyway till it has sane preset management) and may also sell my current Softube plugins if they force me to use this when I next update them.phoenixnick wrote: Gobbler App.....A couple of things we discovered using it once.....after uninstalling, some stuff was left behind on the computer and a "service" could still be detected operating.
