I remember "Songs From a Room" being in the rotation at the time when I first heard his music...especially "Suzanne". That one grabbed me. I never became anymore interested in him. Hell there were so many groups putting out incredible music then and I was too young to be depressed. R.I.P.
....................Don`t blame me for 'The Roots', I just live here.

my mothers favorite poet (she was also a writer).
she conducted an interview with him for wbai pacifica radio when i was young. my mother passed away some years ago, listening to his music always gives me a bittersweet sense of connection to her. for some inexplicable reason...that connection will feel a little more tenuous knowing hes not here anymore either.
sad.

"I've been listening to Leonard Cohen and now I feel like a bird on the wire..."
RIP
The girls I knew, some of them I loved, listening to Leonard Cohen on mono record players in their bedrooms, smoking cugarettes and dreaming of melancholy lovers.
Thank you Mr Cohen.

Very sad, maybe the first artist I *really* listened to as a mopey teen (as opposed to just bouncing around to their music).
Went out on top though, just weeks since his last, well received album (five stars in the guardian I think).

Sorry, but what is unexpected about dying at 82?aMUSEd wrote:Wow that was unexpected. RIP - what a great musician and poet! Major loss!
Anyway, his music was always a bit too gloomy and dark for my taste. When you are already struggling and fighting depression, that kind of music doesn't help

Plus, there's this touching line from his recent letter to his muse Marianne Ihlen who died this summer: ‘it’s come to this time when we are really so old and our bodies are falling apart and I think I will follow you very soon. Know that I am so close behind you that if you stretch out your hand, I think you can reach mine.’fluffy_little_something wrote:Sorry, but what is unexpected about dying at 82?aMUSEd wrote:Wow that was unexpected. Yes, it's touching, realizing the inevitable is right on your doorsteps and trying to give it some sense and dignity, maybe even hope for some sort of afterlife.
When you are over 80, either you already suffer from health problems or you run the risk of dying anytime without any obvious reasons, simply of old age.

A great loss. IMO, greater than when we lost Prince or David Bowie. Cohen lived away from the star system, and was a truly singer/songwriter, and a poet/writer also. A unique author, a great artist and a great soul. RIP. You will always be remembered.
