Hi guys!
My main DAW is Ableton Live, and I've been using Adobe Audition for audio editing for a long time.

I just bought a new PC and am doing a clean install of the OS and I was going to install Audition but then I hesitated a bit... maybe there are better options these days? I know that there are quite many awesome new programs on the market, but I'm not familiar with them.

What I need is:
- just an audio editor, I don't need another DAW (i.e. MIDI, sequencing) - Live covers that ground very well for me;
- it should be lightweight, quick to launch and operate;
- I like clean, uncluttered interfaces - 'no frills'.

What can you recommend?

Wavelab? The Elements version might be already featured well enough for your needs.

Do you have Adobe CC? I do not know if the new Audition has any additional features. I have CC but rarely use Audition (more the Premiere Pro/After Effects kind of guy).

Wavelab gets my vote. I actually have Elements 9 and it is great and does what it needs to do for me.

I'm using Soundforge Pro these days. Hoping for an update that supports 64 bit plugins now Magix have bought it.

I've been using the free Wavosaur for years...

You don't even have to install it - just runs off an .exe

Don't get me wrong, it is very nice for free, but i definitely would recommend the guys who developed it to do a facelift. Looks are not everything, but the interface really looks like it was made by people who stopped developing their artistic skills after line drawing in primary school.

+1 for Wavosaur. does most of what sound forge does but lighter on resources and quicker.

It's what's on the inside that counts, so I use Audacity.

But ocenaudio is another freebie candidate that has a prettier interface.

I use my MPC Touch for most everything. But, I always keep Wavosaur around because it has always worked great for me. Like others said it's lite, quick and easy.

Best modern audio editor? Your call
