Really nice. I like the use of the Mellotron, but it may be a tad loud compared to everything else. I don't know if I'd master a track like this quite that loud, but I do like it a lot.
Thanks for the nice review, Guitarjeff. 8)
So, you´re NOT right:

El Futuro De Humanidad - Spyro

Wow, if only I didn't really dislike rap. The vocals are really, really good once the rap section is over. Objectively speaking, fantastic job. Subjectively speaking, it's not for me.
thanks for listening and reviewing pal
thanks about the singing part - the rap was another verse i spoke and matias did a fantastic job in translation and performance
this is where rap becomes an art lifted higher as the average form in my opinion
the thing that always amazes me in his productions (also in the other contest collab entry numbed) is the immense clearness in his productions
his secret lies in the chaining - if i had to mix this very lively music it would all become a blur

nikp2000 Thanks a lot for your review... I'm glad you liked it.
(i'm Ixox not Ioxx ;-) )

Guitarjeff, thanks too for your review...
Yes the pops and clicks are here to simulate an old vinyl record. (Izotope Vinyl plugin)
I thought it sounds good... Don't know if it really does...

I read KVR from hollydays with a very slow connection.
Cannot listen to the entry until next monday.

Searching for #9 - Bagungie

Smooth Jazz with a bit of a twist. I really like your instrumentation. I especially like the Styx sounding synth right at the end. Nice production too. My only critisism is that The beat sounds a bit stiff and repetative in places.
Thanks Guitarjeff for your input.

I was saying to a good friend that sometimes we need to force ourselves to take a new approach in our music, so I thought I'd try an avante garde' time sig. of 9/8 (is that spelt right)?

Anyway, when I decided to enter in the comp and get the song up for Monday past, I ran out of time to add much colour into the drum track (if I was a drummer, I suppose I would have concetrated on this first)!

By the way, I thought your track was outstanding!
I could easily imagine being down the pub on a Friday night sucking on a cold one with some mates and enjoying the energy and ambience. Great vocal effects too!

There's more to come I hope :D

Reminds me a bit of Counting Crows. Very nice piano playing. It Touches my heart because I have a little girl I feel the same way about.
From one right-winger to another, thanks for the reviews. Entertaining to read. I don't think I've had a Counting Crows comparison, yet. They rock though, so that's cool. ;) I was hoping the song would bring the dads out of the woodwork.

12 Foot Lizard - Donkey Tugger

Nice Modern Rock sounding piece! The progression instantly reminds me of "Anyway You Want It" by Journey. G, D/F# and Em right? :-) Only the first part sounds like ELO. The rest could be right at home on a Goo Goo 20 record ;) Nice production and singing.
Hehe, dunno about the Journey song, never heard it, but thats a very common chord proggie for sure ain't it! (I'm sure it's in about 50% of Oasis's songs! ). The old ones are the best though!

Your entry reminds me of The Darkness, fun, over the top metel-pop,daft overdubs coolio! :D I did a sort of similar daft vocal overdub madness thing in a punky indie style once - Kant - sometimes only 16 part harmonies and gratutitous swearing will do! :hihi:

Sorry
After I did my reviews I looked at you submission posting and saw you used a vinylizer plug. It gives your song a nice period feel that meshes perfectly with the arrangement. Good job all around!

Thanks for the comments!
I finished it up in one long marathon session and probably should have waited and listened again the next day. I think I could have pulled a better mix out. It was about 3.5 minutes that I pared down.
Maybe I'll do a remix.

Spyro, This tune rocks! What a melody. The vocals are truly outstanding. The Spanish rap at the beginning compliments the English lyrics later. Great lyrics at that. This like a modern state-of-the-world song. Truly outstanding.

thanks for the comment on the lyrics

the quality of the vocals have a lot to do with the mixing skills of matias - i never get my vocals melted in a mix in such a fine way

meh
  1. LadyJ - ACK! that quantized autotune (or vocoder, whatever) effect gives me instant Cher nightmares! Too bad, it's a cathy tune, sounds slick, well mixed. Ends too abrupt. Damn you Cher.
  2. Dave Spiers - Note to self - name dropping might attract votes ;) Generic jaath, well done, but again - well, I just don't really like it.
  3. baggio - Nice'n'spacey - If I hadn't read the title I probably would've called it acid country anyway :D
  4. Mystahr - I love the Fizing sounds, but it couldn't keep me interested for over half a minute... after that it evolves into more of the same. It sounds a bit like "ooh I'm off to Southport in 15 minutes and I still have to do a contest entry.."
  5. Glooper - Could be just me, but I constantly had the feeling it's all a bit off-beat. Dunno... this tune just doesn't do much to me somehow.
  6. AndreasE - Well - I'm a sucker for mellotron strings, but the piano part just couldn't really interest me... But I was happy with the summer rain as well :D
  7. plunge - Run-off-the mill pop song. Not quite my style, but good stuff anyway. And good to know that Chloe is such a mahhhvelous kid ;)
  8. TristezaOrange - Methinks there's too much reverb on the percussive guitar sound, it sounds almost like hammering sometimes
  9. thomasc_dk - Heh - the singing I can live with, but the melodica :? I like the weird percussion & samples.
  10. jebudas - Strange... seems to have no sound above 7kHz... Anyway, sounds a bit like a piece of film score, a nice sounding background but not a music piece by itself. But it's probably called "less than serious" because of that :)
  11. Cheeso - Hey! Copy'n'paste from jebudas :o
  12. knockman - emmm reminds me of... dunno, all kinds of things. Good melodies & overall atmosphere. I like.
  13. System ERA - Sounds a bit like GvsB, except they dont'do this kind of exotic rhythm. Drums might have been more prominent. Good song.
  14. jdg - I like the atmospheric sound, but the somewhat generic IDM beats somehow don't match very well. Sounds nice, but could've been more
  15. rsmus7 - Weird tune - something inbetween 90s disco and 80s synthipop. Bit monotonous, liked the guitar part

err... so it's stiff, but off beat... ... hehe..:)...
Actually, I have to admit my song doesn't really do much for me either... It's a bit too stale and emotionless, I think it's why I struggled to write lyrics for it... oh well... roll on next month...

You gotta be kidding, man! Your song has a great cathartic climax around 1:20-1:40 which could probably be pumped a little more for maximum histrionic value ;) but it's very cool. I think the comments about the beat are maybe because the snare up to the climax seems a little lazy. Maybe a snappy military-drum snare pattern that locked the beat down rather than swing the backbeat would help. Anyway I like what you've done a lot.

Post

Farluker...

Nah, your probably just picking up the "the drums aren't quite right" feel to the song...;)...

You ...

Thanks you :D , I did actually come very close to scrapping this song and starting again, but then thought it would be a shame to waste all the time i'd spent recording all the bits and orchestrating. I think my dissatisfaction is because this song is not something that I would really listen to myself, but was more an exercise in improving my production skills...
