Hi

Oh no, those buggers just offered me a ridiculous deal on a cross-grade from Logic to Samplitude Pro V8!

Anyone here used it before, it looks like a very neat bit of kit, and appears to have a similar work flow to Logic.

I am going to have to wait a few weeks to check out the V8 demo but might as well do some research!

as far as your mainstream timeline-oriented DAW goes, its pretty much the best, with the possible exception of SAwStudio (more optimized, but more $$ and not quite as full featured for editing & fx & a dismal looking UI). the things that set samplitude above the rest are the object-based, instead of just track-based editing/mixing/routing, and the superior collection of included dynamics processors/built-in-plug-ins. for example with cubase or logic, to get all the same functionality youd have to get the main DAW, plus WAveLAb, plus Melodyne, plus the Waves collection...and it surely wouldnt cost $999 (or your presumably even better crossgrade price.) and definitely wouldnt be as integrated...

if your goal is sequencing it can do everything logic could (save for some esoteric stuff in the environment - but why not use pdVST for that..), for creative remixing it can do everything Ableton Live can as far as looping and slicing things up adding fx to little bits, automating pitch bend etc...or it can just be a rock solid dedicated mastering processor...your choice..i only have a few 'niggles' with 8.0, basically id like to have more flexible cable-style routing so you could feedback and have 32-channel-wide FX slots, etc...but no other DAW has implemented that at this point either...

9 stars out of 10..

Hi

Bloody hell you'd make a good salesperson!

No, thanks for that, I take it you use it and appear happy with it.

I think I will get the demo as soon as and take a serious look.

Or, technically I should say my bass player with all the studio gear uses it.

He's done stuff straight into Samplitude as well as heavy editing from tracks dumped in from an ADAT hard disc recorder and loves it. He's tried several other systems and keeps returning to Samplitude. He will be updating to V8 as soon as it's ready (I guess they have Craig Anderton writing the English version of the manual).

I have an older version (6 I think) that I use for quick and dirty demos and to rough out ideas. I'm not good with this stuff, but I find it really easy to get around on.

Out of curiousity, what is the crossgrade offer flipper?

I have Samp v6 and really like it. I would really like to check out v8, but the price seems prohibitive.
Things I like about Samp are the object editing, the non-destructive editing, routing options, track eq, speed and few other things.

HI

The cross-grade deal brings the App down by about 40% going by the german site.
Put it this way, I was quoted a price for V7 for a crossgrade today with free update to v8 for under £500 for Samlitude PRO V8.

You could probably sell the daw u intend to use as a crossgrade too - well, if thats the case then it becomes even more attractive.

I've been following the progress of Samplitude for about the last year or so since the midi was improved in V7.Being an orphaned Logic PC user as well , if I am to stay on the PC I think V8 could be a good replacement but there are still a few things i will miss ... Screensets, the event editor and event float , Logics vast array of built in FX . Solo and solo lock . Also for some reason the Arrange page seems less cluttered with Logic.

I am looking forward to trying V8 demo to see how the new drum editor works as it seems based on the Logic hyper editor which i use all the time . Cycle recording in Samp isn't the best as it uses something called the Take Manager which is a bit convoluted if your used to recording multiple takes in Logic. Also the automation seems a bit limited (no automation of sends as far as i can tell) and you can't hide all automation just enable it and disable it on a track to track basis. The different zoom modes are very flexible and much more consistent. Sample accurate editing on the Arrange page is cool but if you open up the Wave editor the song stops playing unlike Logic.

The Samp mixer looks great and the object editor is pretty outstanding...you can cut a part up into bits and apply individual FX on each part as well as pitch shift and time stretch. Also the Analog Modeling Suite has been getting some positive comments from the German users not forgetting Elastic Audio . I'm gradually convincing myself to do the crossgrade as well but V8 will be the clincher with regard to how well the midi editing has improved. If its as good as I hope i think quite a few people will be crossgrading as well.

I have used the 7.2 demo and also went through the license agreement and found this...

"USE OF SOUND AND VIDEO FILES:
You may use the sound and video files of MAGIX-Products for non-commercial purposes only
."

I assume this means the demo songs? (no interest at all in using those by the way I use all my own creations) 8)

"Any commercial use of the Software and / or the sound and video files is only permitted after written approval by a duly authorized representative of MAGIX".

It's the *and/or* bit that confused me are they saying that you cannot use Samplitude Professional 7.2 *commercially* without getting written permission from Magix?!!

Take the "and" out and it reads
... Any commercial use of the Software *or* the sound and video files is only permitted after written approval by a duly authorized representative of MAGIX.

It really does seem like Magix are requesting permission for commercial usage of their product.

"Any commercial use of both the original files or modified files or works which are created with the MAGIX music files, or any other form of commercial use, is prohibited, unless the corresponding MAGIX-Product (or its packaging) is expressly marked with the reference "royalty-free".

Now this clearly is talking about the music files.

Any one care to solve this one? If you use Samplitude did you ask them before you used it commercially? :? Not ther music files but the software itself with your own created work (as this is how I will use it) Is this some kind of required step before using it for commercial purposes?

Thanks

HI

I thought I was bad watching the credits on movies; but reading the LICENCE agreement - what's the world come too?

Anyway I have heard you say good things about this Host so lets hear it and worry about how to divide the 6.59 million $'s profit from the 'Existence in a dual expotential dream warp' hybrid Albanian sing a long album later.

If you don't read the credits in movies, you will never know that the guy who composed the music in The Day After Tomorrow rejoices in the name Thomas Wanker

And your life would be poorer for it...

HI

Thanks for the support - my point exactly!

Who wants to know that if you use 'their' sequencer to sequence 'your' hit 'they' will sue for a %?

The world becomes a stranger place every day.
