AFAIK Reaper, Tracktion and MuLab are all low spec. friendly, give them a whirl and see what you dig the most.

Ive seen them for about $45. I wonder how much it would be to put in 4gb of RAM as well.

Well, you almost exactly got what I could use to run my old Cubase SX3, Virtual Guitarist, Broomstick Bass, Groove Agent 1, Philharmonic 1, Melodyne Cre8.
My XP machine is defect, I was thinking about getting me an old XP laptop to install all these goodies

Only thing would be more RAM needed than that.
BTW, never saw a Windows XP Laptop the already had an SSD inside. Does that even exist?

I have a laptop with the same features and Mulab works well ,there is the free fully functional version that has very few limitations,
no installation required ,download unzip and try it

Until very recently I had a laptop like yours running XP, Core2 duo at about 1.5Mhz. I must say that in its time it was a top of the line HP with 17 inch screen and 2 Gb RAM, and an Emu 1616m PCMCIA interface. It ran Ableton Live 9 and Sonar X2 pretty smoothly, as long as you did not push it too far. I am no expert, but it seems to me that yours might be low on RAM. Just test it and see what happens.

seems that i still have to get extra RAM, because i doubt the machine, that denied to run Mixcraft can still handle Live

Ram for a machine that old will be peanuts. I might even have a couple of strips that you could have.

Reaper for sure. I did 70+ track mixes for clients on my 1gb RAM Core2duo E6600 pc for a few years..

That was my thought, if you can get a gig or so in there then it's fine for everything you want and more.

I've still got my old C2D lappy for messing with Linux. 2GB of ram. Even when it had XP on it, I did loads with it; Reaper, Reaktor (not stupidly big ensembles), Guitar Rig... Plenty powerful for day to day stuff.

I'm using a mid-2010, core 2 duo and it runs Cubase 8.5 without issue. Whatever DAW you choose, I recommend maxing the RAM and adding an SSD. Good luck!

What is annoying with old laptops is that they only accept limited amounts of RAM, I would love to kick my Dell Inspiron 9100 up to 4GB, but it will max only take 2GB I am afraid
