Samsung recently bought Harman International for $8billion. If the name Harman International doesn't ring any bells, their Pro brands certainly will.
Sound Craft, AKG, Lexicon, Digitech, DBX, Crown, JBL, etc.

I don't know much about Samsung as a company, so I can't say if this will be a good or bad thing for those brands.
I just thought it was pretty big news and was surprised that I hadn't seen it mentioned else where.

Same, not sure if this will be good for the smaller brands.

From job offers I can guess Samsung is going deeper into sound processing. Speech recognition, music - it's all within their scope. But now it looks like something more than just addition to TVs and Smartphones.

Yeah but that's just part of the analog warmth, right? Explodes with character.

Justin, I just gotta say I dig your Dr. Teeth avatar
This deal gotta be good news for Android, with Samsung's Galaxy being the top of the pile phone on that platform, and them buying into Harman International. It can only mean more focus on audio on the Android platform

Thanks! I've long been a fan of the Muppets.Numanoid wrote:Justin, I just gotta say I dig your Dr. Teeth avatar
I'm not sure if we can assume that the pro brands will have much of a part to play. I'd almost hope that Samsung would allow those brands to have some independence (at least based on my experience working for a large corporation).Numanoid wrote: This deal gotta be good news for Android, with Samsung's Galaxy being the top of the pile phone on that platform, and them buying into Harman International. Maybe not, but the Android platform is tarnished by it's little focus on audiojustin3am wrote:I'm not sure if we can assume that the pro brands will have much of a part to play.
Looking at iOS there are several dozens of great audio apps, on Android there is basically just Caustic
So I am just hoping that this acquisition can be a step in the right direction to reclaim some territory
