Syncing storyboard with lyrics in music video

Question for those of you who may have experience in producing your own music videos:
I want to make a video where each photo or video clip is lined up exactly in time with what the lyrics in a song are describing. My only experience has been with Windows Movie Maker. What I found was that whenever I added anything to the storyboard, everything I already had lined up then moved, and I had to do an enormous amount of fine adjusting.

So what I need is a program that will keep previous synced elements in place when other changes are made and not move things automatically. Then further editing could be done as needed. I have not yet found a program that includes this feature in its description.

Does anyone have experience making music videos with any video editing program that can work that way? I know that there is a YouTube program that will do that for lyrics on screen, but I also want to be able to do it with scenes. Thanks.

I use Vegas Pro. Makes it pretty easy to put stuff where you want it. Reminds me a little of the workflow in Acid Pro. You still need some editing skills to get good results. ;)

This video was done in Vegas Pro. I provided the music.

"Moving things automatically when other changes are made" is called "ripple editing". Any decent video editors above the Windows Movie Maker level should let you turn this on/off for entire edit sections or individual tracks.

Like thecontrolcentre, I'm also a fan of Sony Vegas...I've only used the "lite" version but prefer it over Final Cut Pro X, iMovie, and Adobe Premiere by a significant margin after using each for projects.
