Hello,

I need help in selecting a rhythm generator plugin. I am considering Movement and Tantra but will consider all suggestions. I want the means to create rhythmic texture or pulsing movement over a drone or slow track and such. If the plugin also has other interesting audio fx and capabilities the better.

Black Friday is almost upon us so I am ready to make my purchase if a deal arises.

My list of Rhythmizers or Rhythm Generator and such.
In my case I want this plugin to be a VST fx but will consider Kontakt and Reaktor plugins.
Audio input and the output is an audio with rhythm.

Tantra ($69) https://www.kvraudio.com/product/tantra-by-dmitry-sches
No randomizer? http://www.dmitrysches.com/tantra

Movement ($150) by Output – I hope it soes on sale soon. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=462840
People seem to like and find the XY pad is useful.

Similar to LFO tool, Cableguys VolumeShaper is great for volume based multi-band rhythmising.

There's also MidiShaper (another one from Cableguys) which is great for modulating midi parameters which you can connect up to your synth/instrument.

Also, don't forget MeldaProduction's MRhythmizer and MMultiBandRhythmizer – VERY deep plugins, but perhaps a bit more complex to use.

Thanks.
I added the links above.

The Melda Rhythmizers, yes they look complicated. Not for me.
Cableguys VolumeShaper seems more interesting to me. Perhaps too simple?

It's surprisingly powerful given it's simple design – credit to Cableguys on their UI design!

Off the top of my head:
- Powerful node editor to customise the volume curve
- Configurable multi bands (up to 3) to apply different volume curves to
- Midi triggers (per band)
- Nice visual feedback on what's happening
- Can be used for sidechaining/ducking, gating, but also more creative volume based modulation etc.

Along the lines of sequenced effects check out Sugar Bytes Effectrix and Looperator.

http://www.sugar-bytes.de/content/produ ... .php?lang=
and keyboard/midi triggered effects like Artillery II.

I really like Effectrix and Looperator for adding variation to static loops.
Native Instruments are usually good for seasonal sales so keep a watch for Molekular.

I'll throw Audio Damage's hat into the ring:

BigSeq2
Replicant

Both BigSeq2 and Replicant are a lot of fun. Tantra is tough to beat, though. It is a fantastic plugin!

Edit: Here's a little demo of BigSeq2
Edit 2: Here's a demo of a Tantra preset on the same audio bit
Edit 3: RIP Camelspace

MXXX is a powerful tool for creating all sorts of rhythmical textures, gates, whatever comes to your mind:

Stutter Edit still is a viable alternative.

and Molekular is of course very cool:

I don't see people talking about it much, but Ultraloop is great for rhythmic inspiration.

I use it quite often. Not specifically for the sound it generates, but the surprising rhythmic things that can come of it with randomized settings based on professional grade loops.

And after making tons of loops from that randomizing, I'll create a new ensemble with those loops (it holds up to 127 loops) and rinse and repeat.

http://twistedtools.com/shop/reaktor/ultraloop/

Honestly, though, it wouldn't be worth near as much (to me) if I couldn't load it up with my own content. It's fun to create tons of stuff in a key/mode and use the different combinations it comes out with.

(no, I don't work for twisted tools and I can definitely live without it ... but it was def worth it for me)

Simon,

Thanks for the suggestions.

Melda the cost of MXXX is a bit too high for me, but can see the potential it offers. I did not care for The Melda Rhythmizers, as they look complicated and the demo videos did not get me excited as did the Movement and Tantra did.

As for Molecular it seems interesting. I now have Komplete 11 which does not include Molecular but when K12 with Kontakt 12 is released I will like get the Ultimate version and then check out Molecular.

I will keep on eye for a Black Friday sale and mill then snap it up.

Initially I did not get excited about the the Audio Damage plugins. I will revisit them.

The BigSeq2 vs Tantra track was interesting. BigSeq2 was nicer!
But then I went to the Tantra site http://www.dmitrysches.com/tantra and checked out the Factory Expansion and it also sounded very good.

They're not as big and fancy looking as, say, Tantra. They are pretty easy to get good, quick results from though. I'm glad you found the little audio demos to be interesting. Hopefully they'll help you in making your decision. You've listed a lot of great options in your original post. I bet you'll end up with a good solution. :tu:

I always scratch my head when I visit their site.
They have what seem interesting plugins.

Qurv seems a bit to light on features.
Thanks for the suggestion.
